After 2-3 hours of having the TV on, it will turn off by itself, and if left alone, it comes back on after 5-10 seconds. There is no sound during this off period. The TV's power LED doesn't blink, so there isn't any indication of a code (If only it were that easy). I should also point out that this behaviour is intermittent. This week for instance (June 16-18) it happened one evening, but not the others (which makes all of this even more difficult to figure out).
This TV is new from circa 2007, so I've had it for a while. In the summer of 2024 I started experiencing this issue, but it went away as we went back into fall and winter.
The TV is located in my basement, so it's not experiencing much of a temperature swing as it would if it were upstairs. I brought a weather station to get a sense of the conditions, and it's about 19 degrees C and 55% relative humidity (with outside being around 25 deg C and humidex of 32 deg C). I had issues with other devices (garage door opener, LCD monitor, set top box) and in all cases replacing some capacitors fixed the issues. So my plan was to look inside the TV and check for suspicious capacitors, but looking at the power supply board yielded no clues. No bulging or leaking capacitor. I also examined the board to see if perhaps there was a hairline crack on a solder joint, but I couldn't find one (of course that doesn't mean there isn't one!). In the winter it might be a few degrees cooler and most likely drier, so I wonder if the humidity is pushing an almost-failed component over the edge.
Does this issue point to anything for anyone on here? Thanks for any help.
