DS Lite does not turn on
Broken power switch
Make sure that the power switch is in working order and not damaged in any way. When the system turns on, the power LED should light up green or red depending on how much charge the battery holds. If the switch is damaged then it will need replacing.
Dead or Missing Fuses
The ds lite has two fuses that can die or detach from the motherboard, so it is recommended to check if the fuses still works and its always present.
these images show you where they are:
General view of the motherboard and location of the fuse(pink square):
Missing Inductor
Very rarely seen but the inductor can detach from the motherboard if the console falls (in general after a long period of play).
Location of the inductor:
Dead EM10
The EM10 is a power filter you can check its proper functioning by checking the continuity of the current between parallel pins of it.

AC adapter issues
Make sure to fully charge your DS Lite using the appropriate AC adapter. When plugging the AC adapter into the console, ensure that the orange light on the top right of the device is lit. If this light does not come on, your AC adapter might be defective and you will need to replace it. If the light does come on then the battery may need to be replaced.
Battery issues
Make sure that you fully charge your DS Lite battery using the appropriate AC adapter. If your DS Lite has had 500 or more charge cycles, the battery pack may only hold 70% of its capacity. This is a common issue with all rechargeable batteries as they are used more and more. Replacing the battery should fix this issue. If the same problem persists with a new battery, there may be problems with the logic board.
Logic board issues
If your console still doesn’t work after replacing the AC adapter, battery, and power switch, then your logic board needs to be replaced.
Problems with the display
Touch screen turns off during game play
If you are playing a Game Boy Advance game on your DS Lite, the touch screen will turn off because the Advance games do not use the touch screen input. If you are playing a DS Game that does use the touch screen input, then there may be an issue with the screen that requires replacing it.
Touch screen doesn’t respond properly
Make sure that you are using the DS Lite stylus. If the screen is scratched, dirty, or contaminated with foreign material, it may need to be cleaned. To clean the touch screen, slightly dampen a lint free cloth with water ONLY and wipe off the screens to loosen any dirt or debris. Then, using a dry cloth, wipe the screens to dry them and finish the cleaning process. If needed, repeat the cleaning process. If this doesn’t solve the problem, recalibrate the touch screen by selecting settings from the main menu. If the screen still won’t respond properly, then it might need to be replaced.
Screen is blank or image is locked up
If an image appears on the screen, but appears frozen, or if there is no image at all, first make sure the power is on. A green or red power LED should be lit depending on how much charge the battery holds. If the LED is on, check that the game cartridge is inserted completely into the appropriate slot. Then, turn the power off and remove the game. Next, make sure the game connector and game slots are clean and free of foreign material. Finally, reinsert the game and turn the power on. If these steps do not resolve freezing issues, the logic board, game card, or screen might need to be replaced.
Screen Is Cracked
Check to make sure that the screen isn’t cracked and that there is no other physical damage. If there is damage to the screen then you will need to replace the screen. If the screen still doesn’t function properly, then there might be an issue with the ribbon cable.
Ribbon Cables Issues
If there are distorted images on the screen, there might be an issue with the ribbon cables. Carefully check to make sure that there is no damage to the ribbon cables such as scratches or tears, and if there is damage it needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, the ribbon cables are attached to the screens so a damaged ribbon cable will require the whole screen to be replaced. If the screen still will not function properly, there might be a problem with the logic board.
Logic Board Issues
If your console still doesn’t work after replacing the screens and the ribbon cable then you might have an issue with the logic board and it will need to be replaced.
Problems with sound
No Sound From The Unit
If there is no sound coming from the unit, first make sure that the sound is on and at a high enough level to hear. Also note that some parts of a game might not have sound, and if headphones are plugged in no sound will come from the speakers. If the volume is on then there might be a loose internal connection with the speakers. Check to make sure that all of the connections to the speakers are secure. If this doesn’t solve the problem, then there might be an issue with the ribbon cable and it needs to be replaced. If this doesn’t solve the issue, then the speakers might need to be replaced.
No Sound From The Headphone Jack
If there is no sound coming from the headphone jack, first make sure that the headphones are plugged in fully. If it still doesn’t work, try another pair of headphones. If you only hear sound from one side of your headphones, or no sound at all, then the headphone jack might be broken and the logic board needs to be replaced.
Problems with the buttons
Buttons Do Not Respond
If the buttons on your unit do not respond, first make sure to remove any excess dirt and grime that may have accumulated on the buttons. If this does not solve your issue then the buttons will need to be replaced. If the problem persists, then there is a problem with the logic board and it might need to be replaced.
Microphone Does Not Work
If the internal microphone does not respond, make sure that the game is designed to use the microphone feature. Then make sure that the microphone opening is not covered or blocked since this can prevent sound from reaching the microphone. Also, if using an external microphone, make sure it is plugged securely into the microphone jack. If these steps do not work, the microphone may need to be replaced.
Problems with WiFi
If the internal wireless does not work there are a couple items to check. First make sure that the wireless router supports 802.11b, as routers that only broadcast in 802.11g or 802.11n may not be compatible. Then make sure that the DS is within proper range of a wireless router and has a signal strength of at least two bars. If trying to play a multi-player game, make sure that all DS systems are within 30 feet of each other, and that each DS has its own game card if needed. When trying to connect to a wireless router, also make sure that the correct encryption key is being used. The DS lite will also only work with WEP (Wired Encryption Protocol), because WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is not supported. The website at the bottom of this guide is a link to Nintendo's Customer Service site that has information on how to configure your specific wireless router based on its manufacture and model number. If these steps do not work, the wireless card in the DS may need to be replaced. Additionally, Nintendo has found the following routers to have known compatibility issues.
Actiontec GT704-WG
Belkin F5D7231-4 ver 1102
Belkin F5D6231-4 ver 1000
Belkin F5D7230-4 ver 4000
D-Link DI-514 ver B1
D-Link DSL-G604T
SMC SMC2804WBR-G product code: 751.7412

try blowing into the cartridge slot and blowing off the game
heckin bread -
I used isopropyl alcohol on the contacts and that did it. Blowing on the contacts like heckin bread suggested worked for some games, but it was far from a 100% perfect solution.

I’m having troubles with the game card slot because when I insert the game card and turn on the Nintendo it says that there is nothing in the game card slot so I try to push the game card in, it works but when I let go it says nothing is in it again. What do I do?

It may be the screen, or a logic board issue.

My ds lite shows a green light when turned on but nothing happens. When it DOES sometimes turn on, it freezes when I insert a game. When I start it with the game inserted, I can play the game, but it randomly freezes there as well. I’m gonna try a new battery, otherwise my PSP has to do the job

My nintendo ds lite is not turning on. When I plug in the ac adapter, the power light flashes orange for a second but goes out and doesn't come back on. The console does not charge or turn on at all. I want to fix the system but I can't as I'm not even sure what the problem is.

Hello there,
I bought a ds lite a few months ago and have loved it. Play on it nearly daily. About a week ago I started to notice that the device would turn on by itself and would just stay on. Even if I turn it off when I noticed it, a few minutes would go by and it would come back on. When I open the console it would display the startup screen.
Now it is no longer holding a charge and is not turning on. Do you happen to know what the cause could be?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,

My Nintendo Ds lite (Crimson red) has trouble charging. When I try to charge it, the orange light flickers. I already replaced the battery. The charging port seems fine, and the ac adapter is an official one. It may be something with the logic board, but it still shows the charging light. To be fair, the DS is very old (bought in like 2007) so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s from old age. Please help, I have run out of solutions. Thank you.
