Monitor Won't Turn On

No matter what you do, you can't get your monitor to turn on.

Make Sure the Monitor is Plugged In

Before you take the time to open up your Acer AL1916 monitor, make sure that both ends of the power cord are plugged in and you have a working outlet.

Press Power Button

Press the power button below the screen of the monitor. If the monitor is working properly, the light on the power button should turn on, as should the monitor. If the monitor is plugged in and there is still no power light, this indicates a bad power supply board. For a complete guide on how to replace the power supply board, click here.

Bad Circuit Board

If there appears to be no power and everything is plugged in, then it is possible that you have a defective circuit board. This means you must take apart the monitor and replace the circuit board. For a complete guide on how to replace the circuit board, click here.

Have Power but No Display

You have proof the monitor has power, but the display won't turn on.

Bad Display

If the power button light is on and there is no display on the monitor, you may need to adjust the settings on the monitor. You can test if the problem is the VGA (the connection between your computer and the monitor) by pressing the Menu/Auto buttons on the front of the monitor. If no options come up on the screen, you will most likely have to replace the display. For a complete guide on how to replace the display, click here. If the options come up, then your display is working properly and you need to investigate the VGA connection or cable.

No VGA Connection

If you can see the monitor settings by pressing the Menu/Auto buttons, but you're still not getting output from your computer, then you know you have a problem with the VGA input. Visually inspect the ends of the cable to make sure all pins look normal. If this checks out, make sure the cable is all the way in (screwed in where applicable) to both your computer and the back of the monitor. Restart the monitor. If the feed from your computer is not showing up on the monitor, then you need to replace the VGA input on the monitor. For a complete guide on how to replace the VGA input, click here.

Display is Discolored

Your monitor isn't displaying the correct colors.

Incorrect Monitor Settings

Push the "Auto" button on the front of the monitor and the screen should refresh. If the screen is still discolored, push the "Menu" button on the front of the monitor near the "Power" button. Reset to default settings.

Poor VGA Connection

If the feed from your computer is discolored, then you might have a problem with the VGA input. Visually inspect the ends of the cable to make sure all pins look normal. If this checks out, make sure the cable is all the way in (screwed in where applicable) to both your computer and the back of the monitor. Restart the monitor. If the feed from your computer is still discolored, then you need to replace the VGA input on the monitor. For a complete guide on how to replace the VGA input, click here.

Monitor Flickers On and Off

Your monitor turns on and off intermittently.

Poor VGA Connection

Make sure the VGA cable is in tight and not wiggling around. If there is a constant connection but the monitor is still flickering, you either need to replace a capacitor on the circuit board, or replace the circuit board itself. For a complete guide on how to replace the circuit board, click here.

Bad Power Supply

The flickering could also be from a faulty capacitor on the power supply board. If there is a constant connection but the monitor is still flickering, you either need to replace a capacitor on the power supply board, or replace the power supply board itself. For a complete guide on how to replace the power supply board, click here.

Acer AL1914 monitor has green distortion lines around images & graphics text is fine, screen is brightness is normal. Tried it on another PC and it looks the sale. Tried another inverter board with no change. Tried a new power cord & checked for bent pins. Running XP service pack 3 using IE8. What is the problem & fix.

The power button becomes non-functional on my AL1912 ... note similar model number. I fixit it about once a year like this Press and Hold these three buttons on the lower control panel:

> (right arrow) + Menu + Power

When the power comes on you are done.

Consider this me paying it forward. You can skip all the heroics above now.

Sadly, that hack doesn't work for my AL192. I guess after about 12 years its time to say goodbye to an old friend, and welcome a new LED one

I have this monitor. I unplugged it a week ago to reorganise my office, after setting everything up again this monitor will not produce a picture. It powers on (green light) but the screen is black with a blue box in middle in which it says ”ISP”. Does anyone have any ideas, I like the screen and would hate to throw it
