Acer AL1916 Troubleshooting

No matter what you do, you can't get your monitor to turn on.

Before you take the time to open up your Acer AL1916 monitor, make sure that both ends of the power cord are plugged in and you have a working outlet.

Press the power button below the screen of the monitor. If the monitor is working properly, the light on the power button should turn on, as should the monitor. You have proof the monitor has power, but the display won't turn on.

If the power button light is on and there is no display on the monitor, you may need to adjust the settings on the monitor. You can test if the problem is the VGA (the connection between your computer and the monitor) by pressing the Menu/Auto buttons on the front of the monitor. If the options come up, then your display is working properly and you need to investigate the VGA connection or cable.

If you can see the monitor settings by pressing the Menu/Auto buttons, but you're still not getting output from your computer, then you know you have a problem with the VGA input. Visually inspect the ends of the cable to make sure all pins look normal. If this checks out, make sure the cable is all the way in (screwed in where applicable) to both your computer and the back of the monitor. Restart the monitor. Your monitor isn't displaying the correct colors.

Push the "Auto" button on the front of the monitor and the screen should refresh. If the screen is still discolored, push the "Menu" button on the front of the monitor near the "Power" button. Reset to default settings.

If the feed from your computer is discolored, then you might have a problem with the VGA input. Visually inspect the ends of the cable to make sure all pins look normal. Your monitor turns on and off intermittently.

Make sure the VGA cable is in tight and not wiggling around. If there is a constant connection but the monitor is still flickering, you either need to replace a capacitor on the circuit board, or replace the circuit board itself.
