Apple keyboard stopped working
Could cleaning the surface of the keys with mild soap and water on my Apple A1243 keyboard make it quit functioning?

The simple answer is YES!
Most people don't realize soapy water is corrosive! So while it might appear to clean things up any leakage into the switch elements can kill them.
Always wet the cloth so its just damp and then use it to wipe the body and keys. As far as what cleaner to use it gets down to what you need to clean. Windex window cleaner and Isopropyl alcohol are a good starter.
