MacBook will not stay on with new battery

I bought a new battery for my MacBook from iFixit, installed it following the guide. But now the MacBook will not turn on when not connected to a power supply. When I try to turn on my MacBook while plugged in, it shows me that the battery is at 0% and not charging. I get to the login screen but a second after logging in, the screen goes black and will not turn on again.

I assumed that either the battery is faulty or I made a mistake installing it. I double checked that all connectors are properly plugged in. Then I disconnected the battery and booted up the MacBook while plugged in with no battery. This time I didn’t get the black screen and everything worked fine.

I noticed that when the screen went to black before, coconut battery had launched and actually recognized the new battery! It now shows up in the history with 105% capacity.

So… it seems like my laptop did recognize the battery but still couldn’t use it? I am at a loss. I already tried an SMC reset which didn’t help.

Check the battery boards data cable connection. Reference Steps 10 ~ 13 in the MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017 Battery Replacement guide. Often I find the ZIF latches are not folded down to compress the cable or it’s missing! As it flew off when you unlatched it or broke things.

I would install this Gem of an App CoconutBattery it will offer useful info to diagnose things. Post a snapshot of the apps main window here for us to see.

Everything is in place with the latches secured.

The computer doesn’t stay on long enough to take a coconut screenshot when the battery is connected.

One other thing I noticed is that when I’m on the login screen the battery percentage changes occasionally: it‘s at 0% most of the time, then suddenly jumps to 49%, then back to 0% after 1 second.

This also made me think there’s a loose connection somewhere. But I also tried to reconnect the old battery which worked fine. When I went back to the new one, same problem as before

@aajwu - You’ll need to get a replacement from the store as it does sound like a bad battery.
