2017 MacBook Pro screen flickering

I reset my macbook recently and the screen has been intermittently flickering ever since. This was never an issue before. I’ve tried resetting pram, nvram, smc etc. i’ve also updated and downgraded to different versions of macOS and still the issue persists. the flickering happens whether i’m connected to power or otherwise. Now here’s the weird part - the flickering stops when i’m watching a video or have an application open that is constantly refreshing data. the flickering also doesn’t happen when i’m in safe mode or when i boot into windows OS using boot camp. Also, when i connect to external display, the flickering does not occur on the external display but still occurs on the macbook display (less frequently). Any idea what’s happening?

Your symptoms line up with a bad T-CON board which sadly is part of the display assembly and can only be replaced with it.

Given the age of your systems I would check the battery as it also likely needs replacing as well. Let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

thanks for your reply @danj . if the t-con board/display unit is the issue, is there a reason why it works perfectly on windows OS then? also I've attached a screenshot below of the coconut battery results [ https://paste.pics/4446b2e7821e2146501d6... ]. battery still holds a charge well so far.

@Victor Mbah - Different OS's use different clocking! Windows default runs at a different clocking setup than what macOS does.

As far as the Battery it's on borrowed time! It already has 900 cycles on it! The battery is only rated for 1000 cycles and that doesn't include age Li-Ion batts lifespan is about 4~5 years as the chemistry breaks down MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Function Keys, Late 2016-2017) Battery and here's its guide MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017 Battery Replacement
