I've actually just replaced a liquid damaged keyboard for a 2011 Macbook Air. It took about 1.5 hours. I can't say it is straightforward but if you have the patience you can certainly do this yourself. I got the replacement keyboard from an online store for $60 and the pentalobe screwdriver for $13. Hello Michael,
First get your wife to buy a new keyboard ;-)
Then, if this is your first tear down, get yourself a set of tools. See the guide for reference. I got mine from ifixit. I have used the guide Ben refers to. Very accurate and useful. Make sure you don't mix the screws up! I used a fair sized piece of paper towel laid down on the table top and scribbled onto it the steps # for each set of screws and size (some steps have you remove several screws of different size). Don't fear, though, the guide is thorough in its steps. Make sure you read them all before starting, it helps. Also have some heat sink paste (instructions and links in that guide).
My friend got a used keyboard for 39$ but I don't have a reference. I'll try to get it for you.

(Assuming you have Lion installed, else the steps might be similar with a few minor changes).
Go under your Systems Preferences (Apple menu in the upper left, then System Preferences...), then Language & Text. Click on the Input Sources tab.
Tell me what input source, or sources are checked.

Hello Paul, I'm pretty much in the same situation (in the need to change the keyboard on a A1369 model)
It's been 2 times I read somewhere on iFixit that you can try unweld/unsolder the keyboard from the topcase and get a new one. It could save a lot of money as it seems to be possible to find some on eBay less than 50$
As you mentioned "a friend of mine" I'm really curious to know if you could provide us more information.

Hi davabi,
I don't know about unsoldering the keyboard as everything is screwed onto it: the keyboard is the last thing that you remove from the Air as you disassemble it. I have not seen anything that could be unsoldered but then I was not looking for such, so I might have missed it.
With the little I know about soldering, especially soldering on electronics, I would not venture on this path. Removing the keyboard as instructed on this website is a much cleaner job. It only took me 1h10 to remove and 1h20 to reassemble.
One thing you might consider: If, like the keyboard I changed, you need to change yours because some keys are broken (the face of the key) and not because the keyboard malfunctions, simply pry the broken keys off the keyboard and replace them with the new keyboard keys you also pried off. You do this by inserting two thin blades, one on each side of the key, and pulling upwards. The key will pop out.
ONE WORD OF CAUTION: It has been a while since I fixed that Air but I am pretty sure this can be done as I think I tried it once I had finished the keyboard swap. This idea came to me only after having done the long job. I have frequently removed all keys from an old desktop keyboard in order to clean it and wanted to see if the same could be done with the Air. So, here is what I would do: once you have decided that the old keyboard is no longer worth keeping on the computer and that you will definitely change it, try prying a key off. If all goes well, simply replace it with the new keyboard key! If not, well you damaged a useless keyboard, so no harm done.

Im first time at this site...but wanted to ask the group...Ive got a 2012 macbook air...the Enter key and shift key directly below the enter key has become intermittent. Im currently in Afghanistan and have limited repair options but will be home in Jan 2015...any ideas what it could be or should I just go to keyboard replacement? thanks in advance!
