I've actually just replaced a liquid damaged keyboard for a 2011 Macbook Air. It took about 1.5 hours. I can't say it is straightforward but if you have the patience you can certainly do this yourself. I got the replacement keyboard from an online store for $60 and the pentalobe screwdriver for $13.
