OnePlus One Troubleshooting

The OnePlus One does not charge as a result of being plugged in or does not recognize the presence of a charging cable.

If your phone's battery won't charge, it could be the result of a bad charging cable. If you have been trying to charge your phone by plugging it into a computer or tablet, it may not be receiving enough power. For best charging results, plug into a wall outlet instead of a computer or tablet. If the phone still will not charge, check the cable for any damage. If you detect damage to the cable, try using a different charging cable. If your cable is damaged and using a different cable works, you will have to find a permanent replacement for your damaged cable.

If your OnePlus One still isn’t charging, it’s possible that your device’s Micro USB Port is faulty and is preventing your device from charging. Check for Debris in the Micro USB port of your OnePlus One device. Clean out any debris in the Micro USB port by using a brush, toothpick, or compressed air. If this doesn’t resolve your issue, your device may have a defective Micro USB port. If your device still isn’t charging, the issue could lie within the battery. While some cellphone models have easily removable batteries, the battery in the OnePlus One is manufactured into the device to dissuade removal. OnePlus One remains unresponsive, even when the power button is pressed.

If your phone id not turning on even when plugged in, the battery could be completely drained. Plug your OnePlus One into a wall outlet via the charging cable and wall adapter and let it fully charge before attempting to turn it on. If the phone sounds like it’s working or behaving as normal but the screen is black, your device’s screen may be defective. To test if the screen is still functioning, perform a hard rest on the phone by doing the following:

1. Press and hold down the Power button.
2. Immediately after holding down the power button, press and hold down the Volume Down button.
3. While still holding down the Power and Volume Down buttons, wait until you see the screen light up.
4. After you see the screen light up, release both buttons.
5. Select the option at the top of the screen that reboots your phone.

Unable to take photos using the rear camera.

If your phone isn't taking photos via the rear-facing camera, your phone may not have the rear-facing camera selected. Check your phone's camera settings to ensure your device has the rear-facing camera selected and ready to take photos.

If the rear-facing camera is selected but your phone still won't take photos, your phone's internal memory could be full. Ensure your device has enough storage space available to take photos by checking your phone's available memory in the 'Storage' settings.

Unable to take photos using the front camera.

If your phone isn't taking photos via the front-facing camera, your phone may not have the front-facing camera selected. Check your phone's camera settings to ensure your device has the front-facing camera selected and ready to take photos.

If the front-facing camera is selected but your phone still won't take photos, your phone's internal memory could be full. Ensure your device has enough storage space available to take photos by checking your phone's available memory in the 'Storage' settings.

The device’s GPS cannot accurately identify the device’s location.

On the OnePlus One, all apps use the Google framework to access your location. If a certain app is not finding your location, it may mean that Google doesn’t have access to the app. Ensure that you have allowed Google apps to have access to your location in the non-functioning app. You can check to make sure that apps have permission to GPS data in your device’s settings.

If your phone can’t stay locked on to your current position, you may need to improve the GPS accuracy. In your device’s GPS settings, change location to ‘High Accuracy’.

If the previous setting changes haven't improved your GPS, you may need to clear the GPS cache, which is different than clearing the Android cache. To clear the GPS cache, download the GPS Test app on your phone. If the GPS Test app doesn’t show any improvement on your phone, you can also try a GPS improvement app, such as GPS Status or Faster GPS.

Device gives “Turn Airplane Mode Off” error message despite Airplane Mode never having been activated.

Many of the “work-around” hacks, provided in forums regarding this subject, are obsolete with the OnePlus One’s newest operating system. The problem itself has also widely been resolved with the introduction of the newest operating system, though it continues to persist in much smaller numbers. Check your phone’s setting to see if there’s a software update available. If your device is unable to update to the newest operating system because of the error, you will need to perform a Soft Reset or a Hard Reset to resolve your issue. Please back up any important info on your phone (photos, videos, music, etc.) before doing a reset.

Follow the below instructions to perform a Soft Reset:

1. If your display is off, turn it back on using the power key
2. Open the ‘Settings’ application
3. Scroll down until you find ‘Backup & Reset’
4. Tap on ‘Factory Data Reset’
5. Select ‘Reset Phone’
6. Tap on the box ‘Erase Everything’
7. The device should automatically reboot

Follow the below instructions to perform a Hard Reset:

1. Turn your phone off by pressing down the power key for five seconds
2. Turn the phone back on while keeping the ‘Volume Down’ button pressed in
3. When the phone vibrates, release the ‘Volume Down’ button
4. Your phone should enter a mode called ‘Simple Recovery’
5. Choose the option that reads ‘Wipe Cache Partition’ using the power button
6. You should get a message that says ‘Cache Wipe Complete’
7. Continue to choose the option ‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset’
8. The phone should automatically reboot
