The Wifi Will Not Connect

The phone does not connect to Wifi or says it is connected to WiFi but is unable to access the internet

Software Bug

By performing a forced restart, the phone will restore its WiFi connectivity. To perform a forced restart, hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds or until the Motorola logo appears on the phone screen. Check and see if the Wifi connectivity is restored.

Network Settings Reset

Sometimes the phone’s network settings are altered from factory settings and resetting them will restore WiFi connectivity. To reset the network settings, open settings on the phone. Once under settings, open system > advanced > reset options > reset Wifi, mobile, and Bluetooth > reset settings > confirm. This should reset the phone’s network settings and restore WiFi connectivity.

Corrupt Downloaded Files or Software

If the above solutions do not solve the problem the problem may be from something downloaded onto the phone. A factory reset of the phone may be necessary to fix the WiFi connection. To do so, go to settings > backup & reset > factory reset your phone. Before doing this, back up the phone’s data so it can be loaded once the reset is complete.

The Device Is Unresponsive

Touching the screen or pressing buttons on the phone gives no or very slow response times

Software Display Bug

Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to just soft reset the phone. To soft reset hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds and the device will restart and go through its boot-up sequence.

Full Storage

Full storage on the phone can slow down speeds. This can be fixed by simply deleting pictures or texts, or by going to settings > storage and checking out what is taking up space and deleting what is not needed.

Out of Date Software

If the device becomes unresponsive when using an application make sure to soft reset the phone and make sure the applications software is the most up to date on the google play store. The device’s software may also be out of date. Go to settings > system > advanced>system updates and make sure there are no updates available.

Corrupt Downloaded Files or Software

A factory reset may be necessary if the problem persists if the other suggestions fail. There is probably a deeper seeded software problem. Go to setting > backup & reset > factory reset your phone. This will delete the phone’s data so a backup is highly recommended to keep the phone’s data safe.

The Device Is Stuck on a Black Screen

The screen is black or will not turn on

Software Display Bug

Similar to the unresponsive screen a soft reset often solves the problem. To soft reset hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds and the device will restart and go through its boot-up sequence.

Battery Is not Sufficiently Charged

Sometimes drainage of the battery leads to a system crash. This may because of services or components not being properly shut off. To fix this plug the phone into a working charger, leave plugged in for around 10 minutes, and after this time hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds.

The Battery Will Not Charge/Hold a Charge

Battery drains unexpectedly quickly or will not charge at all

Faulty Power Cable/Adapter

Confirm that the power cable is functional by attempting to charge a different compatible device. If the device fails to charge, consider buying a new adapter.

Malfunctioning Charging Port

Ensure the charging port is clear of all dust and contaminants. Check if any parts are loose and that the central tab in the USB port is not misaligned. If misaligned, gently use the spudger to lever the tab back into place.

Missing Operating System Update

Go to your system settings and make sure any new software updates are installed. After, fully restart the device. If battery degradation persists, continue to the Faulty Battery section.

Faulty Battery

If the power cable is functional and the device only powers on when the power cable is plugged in, the battery may need to be replaced. Replace the battery using this guide.

The Phone Is Overheating

The phone is hot to the touch while in use or charging

CPU Is Busy

This occurs when there are too many apps open or a single app is using a large amount of memory. Simply close the apps and reduce phone use until it cools down. If the issue persists, an app that tracks the phone’s battery temperature can warn of possible overheating.

Old Battery Is Overheating

If the phone still has the original or older battery, it may release more heat than a newer battery. The easiest way to do this is to replace the battery. To do so, use this guide.

Phone Overheats While Charging

Sometimes the phone will overheat while it is charging, this is likely due to using a charging cable that did not originally come with the phone. This can be solved by using the original cable again or purchasing a new cable.

The Camera Takes Blurry Photos

Your photos appear out of focus or completely black.

Dirty Lens

If your photos appear blurry or if the camera fails to focus, you may have oil or dirt build-up on the lens. If this is the case, clean the lens with a clean, soft, and dry cloth.

Faulty Camera Settings or Third-Party Application

Your camera may have the Camera Error message pop up or not launch because of a third party application or the camera settings. Close all third-party apps that may use the camera. Go to Settings -> Apps -> Camera and press Force Stop. Clear your data and cache and the problem should be corrected.

Photo Settings

Increase the resolution (photo size) in the Camera app. A smaller photo size results in lower image quality. Avoid zooming in when taking a photo, this causes pixelation. Be sure to disable the burst mode as this can impact image quality.

Broken Lens

If there is a visible crack your lens, visible discoloration, or magnification when your camera is launched your lens may be broken. Replace your lens using this guide.
