Keys are missing
If you have keys missing because of physical accidents, a new keyboard can be ordered as a replacement.
Faulty keyboard driver
If your keyboard has keys that do not work, or only sporadically work, it could be a problem with the keyboard driver. This is a program that controls the keyboard. To fix the issue, you can uninstall this program. First press the Windows Key + R to open the run window. In this window type in “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter. Once this is done, select “Keyboard Device,” right click and select the “Uninstall” option. Lastly, click on the “Action” menu in Device Manager and select the “Scan for hardware changes” option and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver. If this option does not work, it may be a hardware issue and keyboard need to be replaced.
Keys are stuck
There are several methods you can use to resolve this issue.
1. Check to see if the touchscreen keyboard works. First, go to the login screen, and select the “Ease of Access” button on the bottom left. Then select the box that says “Type without the keyboard (On-Screen Keyboard).” Check to see if both the touchscreen and physically keys respond.
2. Disable addition keyboard features. Go to the Control Panel, select “Ease of Access,” then “Ease of Access Center,” and lastly “Make the keyboard easier to use (adjust setting for the keyboard).” Deselect all options, press “Apply Settings,” and restart the laptop.
3. Determine if the problem is hardware or software. Check to see if keys work under “Command Prompt.” To do this, press the keys Windows + X at the same time, and select “Command Prompt” from the menu (works only for Windows 10/8.1/8). If you have Windows 7, go to the start menu at the bottom left and in the search bar type “Command Prompt,” then select the option. In the Command Prompt Window try the stuck keys. If they work, it is a software problem, if not, it may be a hardware issue that requires you to contact Lenovo Customer Support to get the keyboard replaced.
