Machine Won't Turn On
No matter what you do, you can't get your label printer to turn on.
Batteries Inserted Incorrectly
If your label printer won't turn on, you should check to make sure that the batteries are inserted with their positive and negative poles pointing in the correct direction. Locate the batteries and make sure that they are properly inserted.
Dead Battery
If your label printer won't turn on, you should replace the old batteries with six new AAA batteries. Locate and replace the batteries.
AD-24ES Adapter Not Correctly Connected
If the screen still remains black after checking and replacing the batteries, there might be a problem with the connection of the AD-24ES adapter. Locate the adapter and make sure that it is properly connected.
Screen Broken
The machine may be on but the screen is broken so it remains black. Try replacing the screen and turning the device on again.
Faceplate Broken
If the faceplate is broken it may be impossible to depress the On button. You need to replace the faceplate.
The Tape Won't Cut
The label is extremely hard to cut, or won't even cut at all.
Bad Blade
If the cutter blade is blunt due to repetitive use it won't cut the label properly, or at all. You need to replace the cutter blade.
Display Reads: No Cassette!
When you turn on the machine, there is an error message saying that there is no cassette.
Insert Tape Cassette
If this error is displayed on your screen when you try to print your label, it means that there is no tape cassette installed. You need to obtain a tape cassette and insert it into the device. If you aren't sure where to insert it, check out the tape cassette replacement guide.
Paper Jam
Your printer won't print.
The Tape Is Feeding Incorrectly
If the tape gets stuck over the tape guides the paper won't print. This happens when the label is pulled from the printer rather than cut. In order to fix it, you must make sure that the tape feeds under the tape guides. The tape guides are located on the cassette, not on the label printer.
The Cutter Is Out Of Place
The tape could feed out in the wrong direction and jam if the cutter unit is not in place. The cutter unit is the two green plastic parts located near the slot where the tape feeds out of the printer. If you aren't sure where this is, check out the cutter blade replacement guide.
The Cassette Tape Is Installed Incorrectly
If the cutter lever does not spring back about 3/4 of an inch when you press down on it, then it may be jammed. Re-install the tape cassette. Now check to see if the cutter level springs back to its initial position. Note that the cutter lever will not move if the back panel is not completely closed, so double check that.
Display Reads: No Text!
You're trying to use the printer and the screen keeps displaying that there is no text.
No Text Is Entered
This error message appears if a text file is told to print when there is no data stored in the memory. Make sure that you have entered text before trying to print.
Faulty Keyboard
If you type out a label and press print and this error message is displayed it could mean that your keyboard is faulty. Check to make sure that when you press down on the keys, text appears on the screen. Refer to the keyboard replacement guide for further instructions.

I’m having the same issue as user mtaabaya above with my P-touch PT-D400. It’s plugged in with the power adapter, and I’ve never used batteries with it. It turns on for a second, then the screen goes blank. Sometimes, it won’t turn on at all.

When the tape will not cut, turn the green piece that has the number two on it around. I found that one side of the part had a large gouge in it and would not allow the tape to cut correctly.
