Vacuum not powering on
When any part of the vacuum is not correctly plugged in, the vacuum doesn’t power on.
Faulty charging cord
With time, the charging cord within the charging base of the device may wear out or break. This results in no power being sent to the battery of the vacuum. With a little patience, the power cord can be replaced without having to replace the whole base for the device. Follow this guide to replace the charging cord with a new, undamaged cord.
Handle not attached properly
The handle of the vacuum is where the power button is located and is a separate component from the rest of the vacuum. The handle must be positioned correctly for the vacuum to power on. To fix this issue, remove and reinsert the handle and ensure it makes a clicking sound. Use this guide to replace the handle. Once the handle is replaced, check the connection port to ensure there is no debris blocking the connection.
Motor is not spinning
If all other components are working accordingly and the motor is not spinning, it defeats the entire purpose of the vacuum. This issue could result from the motor not being properly connected to the circuit, or the motor itself is broken and will need to be replaced. For both cases, use this guide for instructions to get to the motor, and check the wiring along the way.
Water is not being dispersed onto the ground
Water and cleaning solution from the holding tank is not being dispensed to clean the floor.
Water level too low
There is a minimum fill line on the clean water tank within the device. If the water is below this level, water will not be dispensed onto the floor. To fix this issue, remove the clean water tank at the back of the vacuum and remove the water fill cap. Once the cap is off, fill the tank with the desired combination of water and cleaning solution and replace the cap and place the tank back into the vacuum.
Clogged clean water filter
If the clean water filter cap is filled with debris, water will not be able to flow through the vacuum. The easiest remedy to this issue is to replace the filter cap, located on the bottom of the clean water tank, with a new and clean filter. Use this guide to replace the clean water filter cap.
Clogged nozzle / Debris in brush roll area
The final component before the water reaches the ground is the nozzle that is in the brush roll area. As the brush spins to collect all debris, it is possible for the debris to get stuck in the nozzle, blocking water flow. To prevent this, regular replacing of the brush roll is needed to ensure there is less debris around the nozzle. Use this guide to replace the brush roll. To unclog the nozzle, simply use a needle or other thin cylindrical object to disturb the stuck debris.
Internal battery not holding a charge
Vacuum tends to have shorter runtime and loses power quickly after charging.
Device charging slowly/Not Charging
The Bissell Vacuum features an external charging base/cleaning station. It is good practice to make sure the Vacuum is secured and lined up with the charging base and plugged into a proper outlet. If the device still manages to charge slowly, then please refer to this guide for charger replacement.
Battery not properly connected
If the Bissell Vacuum is not turning on, there may be an issue with the battery. The battery may just not be connected properly, or it might need to be replaced. Use this guide to find out how to access the internal battery. You may want to try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery before replacing it.
Dead Battery
The battery in the vacuum might eventually die and become totally ineffective. You may want to consider replacing the battery. Be sure to check the charging cord and battery connections first because replacing the battery is a much more invasive replacement guide. Use this guide to replace your battery.
Brush not spinning
When the brush is not properly cleaned, the brush will not spin.
Dirty brush
Any part of the brush that is dirty needs to be cleaned. This result could cause the brush not to spin. This issue could also arise from the brush roll window not being placed on correctly. To fix this issue, remove the brush roll window and the brush to clean it and reinsert the brush and the brush roll window. Use this guide to replace the dirty brush.
Water leaking from vacuum
Water leaking from any part of the vacuum is not ideal, as it can lead to greater damage.
Clean water tank leaking
If the clean water tank on the vacuum is leaking, it can cause excess soap and water to get onto the floor and the water in the tank won't last as long as desired. This issue could arise from the tank not being properly inserted, or from the fill cap not being on tight or correctly. To make sure the tank is properly installed, remove the tank and make sure all components are attached. Then, reinsert the tank starting with the fill cap at the bottom and insert the tank until an audible click is heard. If the fill cap is loose, simply unscrew and screw the cap back onto the tank. If the problem continues to occur, it is recommended to replace the fill cap, for which the instructions can be found in this guide.
Dirty water tank leaking
Any leak starting from within the dirty water tank is the worst possible leak on the vacuum, as leaking dirty water will undo the cleaning done by the device. This issue could result from the tank not being properly installed, or the water filter is clogged and not allowing water to enter the tank. To properly install the dirty water tank, simply remove the tank, making sure all components are attached. Then, reinsert the tank starting with the bottom, and make sure the tank makes an audible click to ensure the tank is properly connected. If the filter is clogged and not allowing water to pass, use this guide to replace the dirty water filter.
Brush roll area leaking
Water is dispensed from the brush roll area, but if there is a clog or poor connection, water might leak. To fix a leak in the brush roll area start by removing the brush roll cover. You can find more information in the brush roll replacement guide. If there is a clog or debris caught in the brush roll cover, remove it before reattaching. If the issue was a connection issue, be sure to reconnect the cover properly.
LCD display not responding to input
The display fails to respond to touch inputs from user.
Dead Battery
The Bissell Cordless Max requires the battery to be charged before operation. The charging base must plug in, and the vacuum secured in the base. If the touch display doesn’t work after charging, refer to this guide for battery replacement or this guide for charger replacement.
Handle Disconnected
The touch display could be unresponsive because the handle connection isn’t secure. The power button is on the handle. If the handle isn’t properly connected to the vacuum, then it won’t turn on. The device manual has instructions for removal and installation to check connections. The push button is on the back of the vacuum. A replacement for the handle may be found here.
Faulty Display and Motherboard
The LCD Display could be damaged and require further instructions for replacement. The instructions for replacement are found here.

Water is not being sucked up from the machine. brush spins and water is deployed onto the floor from the clean water tank but water does not enter the dirty water tank. How can i inspect any "rubber seals" that might be perished or squashed?
