In the Uk, in winter the outer uPVC door latch and key lock is tighter than normal.

Due to cold weather and lower than normal temperatures around 1° or less the metal work will shrink a little. This makes the latch on the door to not locate in the frame slot. This is down to as little as 0.5 mm.

In my case after last year and again this year I decided to take a look and install a little bit of extra thin spacer to the frame side strip. It's held on by a few screws. BUT by just loosening them by half a turn each I had the slack I needed and the key and latch worked fine with no issues. Just retighten when it's warmer.
