Test the heating element

  • These steps will require a multimeter. If you aren't familiar with how to use one, here is a guide that will help you.

  • Many Whirlpool electric dryers have heating elements with two or even three sections. The resistance will vary according to the arrangement.

  • If the heating element has only two terminals, you will just check the resistance between those terminals.

  • The resistance should be about 10–13 Ω. If it is outside this range, the element should be replaced.

  • If there are three terminals (common on newer machines, and shown here), check the resistance between the middle common terminal and each of the element terminals.

  • The resistance should be about 20 ohms (Ω). If the resistance is less than 15 Ω, or greater than 25 Ω, you should replace the element.

De nombreux sèche-linge électriques Whirlpool sont dotés d'éléments chauffants à deux, voire trois sections. Leur valeur de résistance varie en fonction de la disposition.

Si l'élément chauffant ne comporte que deux bornes, vous vous contenterez de vérifier la résistance entre ces bornes.

La résistance doit être d'environ 10-13 Ω, si elle se situe en dehors de cette fourchette, l'élément chauffant doit être changé.

S'il y a trois bornes (ce qui est courant sur les machines récentes et illustrées ici), vérifiez la résistance entre la borne commune du milieu et chacune des bornes de l'élément.

La résistance doit être d'environ 20 ohms (Ω). Si la résistance est inférieure à 15 Ω, ou supérieure à 25 Ω, vous devez changer l’élément chauffant.
