Back then the amber light meant the PSU died but that was sold amber, not blinking. These also lack the 2000s diagnostic lights which were easy to work with once you know the codes. Anyway, look here: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us... -- blinking amber is a device connection issue.

Does it beep or not? If it isn't, I would start with the RAM - if it is, start here:

2, 3 - No Memory or Random Access Memory (RAM) detected

  • Confirm memory installed
  • Troubleshoot memory further

3, 2 - Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) or Video card or chip failure

  • Contact Tech Support for further troubleshooting -- Dell site, ignore this
  • If you have any PCI/PCIe cards, it's usually a loose or bad card - pull anything you do not need to boot out to locate the bad card.

5 Real-Time Clock Failure

  • Replace the CMOS Battery, Contact Technical Support if the problem persists.
  • Your motherboard is bad if a new cell does not help and you remove the bitterant with alcohol or use industrial not Bitrex coated cells. Sadly it truly might be the board - the G33M02 was not as bulletproof of a board as the M03 was, and the only way to get an M03 was to buy with a Q6600 :-(. Almost all of the G33M Foxconn boards Dell used are the M02 flavor which weren't as good as the M03, and also could never take C2Q chips back in the day - the M03 could but the only way to get it was a Q6600 or potentially late run units Dell went to the M03 to cut costs as the machines were nearing 12-18 months and due to be discontinued. They were somewhat prone to CMOS EEPROM issues where a new cell would lead to the same issue and the issue was the CMOS RAM potion of the BIOS chip failed. Both M02 and M03s are prone to it but it's always the M02 board.
