Samsung Tablet from 2020, Wi-Fi only version. There also exists an LTE version. The codename is gta4lwifi, the model number is SM-T500

Will not boot after replacing charging port

I replaced the charging port on my kid's SM-T500 A7 10.4 tablet and afterwards the device does not boot. I confirmed the battery charges when plugged in by using a power monitor on the tablet charger; it is drawing ~8.8 watts. I also plugged it into my computer which recognizes the device as being plugged in via the Device Manager showing a "Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device" but nothing in file explorer.

I have tried resetting all cables including the charging port and I have tried the Vol Down + Power with no luck. The screen does not show the charging logo while plugged in. If it is turning on but the screen is not working I would expect it to register as being on in my Family Link app, show on the wifi network, and show as a device to explorer on my windows laptop but none of those are occurring.

I believe this means it is not booting and I am unsure of the next step to take. Going to a repair shop is a no go due to the cost vs age of this device. Could the motherboard or screen need to be replaced? How could I know which if either?

Hi @jamesbolto16504

Check if you've installed the correct USB charge port board.

The board number should be 85943_2_14 Rev 1.0. Below is an image that shows what it looks like.

If it isn't the correct board search online for GH81-19632A to find suppliers that suit you best.

if the board is the correct one, here's a link showing the USB-C pinouts.

Not sure how many pins are in the port in your model but check if there's 5V DC between the VBUS and GND pins on the board when the charger is connected. This is just to prove that the USB-C port is connected to the board OK. You may have to remove the board from the phone case and plug the charger into the port to test it.

If the board seems OK, I can't find a free download of the schematics online, for the tablet but here's a link where you can purchase it for a moderate cost.

The manual will have the troubleshooting flowcharts which will help to find out where the problem is. It also has a parts list in case there a faulty part that needs replacing.
