For what exact model is this display assembly compatible with? Apparently it is for a 13" Pro / Air according to the label. A1278 ruled out so it must be from 2013 on wards going by the guides, but their connections all look rather similar in layout. 100% Positive ID please!

The 2018 and newer MacBook Airs are similar but as yours has the MacBook Pro logo it's not an Air.
With the limited information I would say it's a 13'' 2016/17 MacBook Pro Display as you can see in comparison with this one.
The 2018 and newer MacBook Pro's are a bit different as you can see here MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Mid 2018-Mid 2019) Display Assembly the only way to tell is looking at the hinges.

"The 2015 and newer MacBook Airs are similar " - Actually 2013-17 are identical, but I think you meant to say 2018 up Airs are similar. But this looks to be from a MBP, the source says there are no hinges attached unless they didn't understand the word hinges as I also would have thought that complete display assemblies come with the hinges attached. Unless something is off with their supplied images as the MacBook logo would just be on the display glass no? A bit confusing.....Other pro models 2 or 4 TBP or function keys also look similar..... Again was guesswork. I'm waiting on more info and will update as and when (IF provided). Maybe @jadonlyon can input.

Without knowing the hinge you can't tell the difference in this series. The 2016 and newer Pro's all have a press-fit hinge design as well as the 2018 and onwards in the Air's.
All of the 'Thin' Display designed systems have a chin plate that holds the logo "MacBook" in some form. Only the older 2012 thru 2015 Retina's don't have the logo as they have a full glass design.
@danj There must be some identifying number or info somewhere on these displays that can separate them from each other.I don't touch any Macs after 2017 for these reasons.... but Airs & Pros with retina displays all look similar in connection layouts from what I can observe from the guides.... annoying, a new display which is basically useless if it cannot be identified 100% for its compatible model.
@livfe - There is no model or P/N written only a few visual clues. The Logo and the clutch spring in 'Thin" series displays.
If this was shipped to you as an older display they shipped you the wrong part.
@danj Not to me, was just an advert for sale at a very cheap price BNIB $60 offered, but they don't say or even know for what model it is. Even if it was for an A1502 model for example, is still useless as 2015's were unique to earlier models even though they are identical in appearance..... Answer again should have been a comment as we cannot positively ID it....
