Av black and white s video normal

I've tried cleaning every connection in system and jump pack but still having issue with av being black and white. Video displays normal am using n64 hdmi converter that works with my other 64 but am stumped as to why this is an issue

Hi @danielnewk64014

A Composite (AV) video signal is two signals combined.

There's a Luminance component and a Chrominance component to the signal.

It is the Chrominance component that provides the necessary colour information. The Luminance component provides the brightness information.

Looking at a schematic of the N64, there's an encoder (U5) used to combine the signals coming from the CPU, (RCP-NUS) to provide the different signalling output types e.g. s-video and AV.

Given that the s-video is OK it could be a problem anywhere between U5/12 and P7/9
