Repair guides, support, and troubleshooting information for MacBook Air models with 13-inch displays.

Making A Keyboard Replacement Guide...

I am going to replace 4 keyboards on 4 MB Air Models. I have noticed there is actually no actual guide on how to do this. There are many steps involved so:

Question 1: Can I simply copy everything from an existing guide to use as a kind of template, and just add the missing steps creating a new guide?

Question 2: As this will cover all A1369 A1370 A1465 & A1466 models ONLY how or where to add the guide? As many other models where the process will be somewhat different or even not possible at all. Do I copy the guide to every model that it is applicable to (6x MacBook Air 11" models 2010-15 & 7x MacBook Air 13" models 2010-2017)?.

Question 3: 2013/14/15 13" models use the same guide for MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Logic Board Replacement / MacBook Air 13" Early 2014 Logic Board Replacement / MacBook Air 13" Early 2015 Logic Board Replacement, but 2017 does not have one added even though it is the exact same layouts. So, Q3 is how to copy a complete guide to add it there, thus completing the guides for that particular years model as imo it makes perfect sense to add it.

I am hoping @krisrodriguez can provide.an answer to all 3 questions, thanks in advance.

@livfe - These guide try of questions belong over in META

@danj I seem to be unable to leave a comment or answer anything there.... https://meta.ifixit.com/Answers/View/216... I iteid to post a comment and answer regaring this Q: https://www.batterybuy.ph/batteries-appl...

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@livfe - META is iFixit not the blog space. Issues with the store postings or how to create a guide is what should be posted there. URL's of other sites should be emailed to Kris as a possible source for the store. But you need to make it clear that's your intent. As it's out of context it was likely removed. Also you need to have some street cred to post URL's your rep points within META makes a difference as well.

@danj OK then prehaps you can assist and forward the links above as they may help ID the battery for that unit as they are available over here. Anyway back to topic at hand.... any suggestions?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@livfe - Just email the store via this form contact it looks like the older email address is no more.

As far as creating a guide I would create a Technique guide similar to MacBook Air 13" Bluetooth/Wifi Antenae /Webcam /Display Cable/Hinge Replacement but here you'll need to note the series Intel based Vs M Series and do a different one for that. There are some MacBook Pro guides which you might want to emulate.

@livfe ,

Thanks for laying all this out — and I really appreciate your patience. I know this thread’s taken a few turns, and I totally get the frustration. @danj , is one of our moderators and was just trying to be helpful, but I hear you: you’re looking for clear answers about guide creation, and I’m here for that.

To address your primary concern, you’re absolutely right — we don’t currently have a keyboard-only replacement guide for these MacBook Air models. That’s a gap we’d love to see filled, and your contribution would make a real difference.

Here’s a quick breakdown of your questions with my answers for easy referencing:

1. Can I copy from an existing guide to use as a template?

Yes. You can use an existing guide (like a logic board replacement) as a prerequisite and then add the keyboard-specific steps. Just make sure your additions are meaningful and clearly focused on the keyboard replacement.

2. How do I apply one guide to multiple models?

You only need to create one guide. Once it’s ready, you can associate it with all relevant models using the Edit > Add Device option. If there are small differences between models, you can use conditional steps or notes to address them. To start, just create the guide under any one of the supported models — we can help with linking it to the rest.

3. Why is the 2017 model missing a logic board guide, and can I add it?

Great catch. If the 2017 process is the same as 2015/2016, you’re welcome to duplicate the existing guide and associate it with the 2017 model. I’ll also check in with our tech writing team to see why that guide wasn’t added.

Here is a helpful link that should give you a clearer idea of how guide creation works.

Take a look around and please let me know if you have any other questions.

How to add parts when the keyboard & screws are not listed?

It is difficult as I have added the steps from other guides but cannot seem to delete the ones that are not important, and when I try to edit it starts at an empty step one..... what am I missing? There needs o be some kind of "Import steps" available in editing.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@krisrodriguez After trying for hours I give up, to difficult.... Guides add parts that are not needed and always says cannot save..... I need a guide that starts at opening the case etc.... removing the display.... Battery.... everything, so we are down to just the middle case shell.... nowhere I can import any guide (Which would be easier) as many guides are all linked together so we endd up using many guides and their order of progress is all over the place. Sorry, to frustrating to keep trying. I can only start a guide from a totally dismantled keyboard case..... and if anyone wants to go to the lengths of including other guides to get to that step then great :) It should be completed in 3-4 days when I will finish the installations taking pictures along the way.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@krisrodriguez I have finished the guide for the keyboard replacement MacBook Air 13" Early 2017 Keyboard Replacement and listed it under the 2017 A1466 MacBook Air 13" Early 2017 , this guide can be added to all the A1369 A1370 A1465 A1466 models as the process is exactly the same, only difference in being the shape of the case for the 11" models. I leave that to you champ :)

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I also did a guide for 2013-2015 15" Retina models https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/edit/186891..., it is for the 2015, but 2012 and 2014 retina models will be the same process and look virtually the same inside, so please add to them models also. I have also done it for the 13" models A1369 A1466 and the MB Air 11" models A1370 A1465.
