I run EliteBooks, so while it's not consumer grade, I've seen this occur, mostly with other brands or consumer HP. If it's sudden, it's usually because Windows Update sometimes loves to push driver updates - it'll push an audio driver update and break things. I've never had it happen on my 2 640 G9s yet, but the fix when it occurs is to uninstall the audio driver, then reinstall it from the drivers on the HP website. That said, without a model like the 14-x series, which is extensive, I can't point you in the right direction.

That said, search "HP 14-[insert model string] drivers," and you should be able to find the exact driver quickly. Unlike others, I cannot pull from a generic listing, so you need that model number to find the driver.
