It's due to how Windows Update sometimes loves to push driver updates - it'll push an audio driver update and break things. I've never had it happen on my 2 640 G9s yet, but the fix when it occurs is to uninstall the audio driver, then reinstall it from the drivers on the HP website. That said, without a model like the 14-x series, which is extensive, I can't point you in the right direction.
