Mid 2015 MBP shutdown at 40% after new battery

Hi Folks. I just replaced the battery in my mid 2015 MBP from a battery bought from Amazon. The installation went well, and the battery charges to 100%. I have reset SMC and NVRAM and booted to safe boot numerous times and the battery still cuts off at 40%. I've also tried using Terminal : sudo nvram -c. Then password. I just get an error message back:"nvram: Error clearing firmware variable fmm-computer-name: (iokit/common) not permitted" I used Apple hardware check & Techtool Pro and the battery comes back with no errors. I assume its a battery calibration issue. Anything else I could try? Would disconnecting the battery and waiting a while help? Hope someone can help! Thanks in advance!

Hope this helps Dan?

Thanks!

Please install this App CoconutBattery, take a snapshot of the main window and post it here. Something doesn’t sound right.

IF I remember rightly I had a similar issue on a MB Air recently and it was something to do with some components from the battery to a going faulty SMC chip. The MB Air would shut down at 80% but didn't show a connected battery in the menu bar...... I think it was this post Battery Power OK But Battery Not Dectected...... It might be worth trying a total fresh clean install to see if the problem persists.

A clean install was on my mind also. Thanks for the advice. I leave for work in the US soon and not sure if I want to go through a clean install at this point. It makes sense though. Thanks!

@vintageb3 A time machine backup would put everything back 'as it was' just in case, You could download this small app called mist from github https://github.com/ninxsoft/Mist this will get and even make for you a Monterey latest version installer. When you have the energy and time try it, if it cured the problem then great, if not then there maybe a deeper issue that may require some specialist brains. I am also using a 2015 2.8 (DG) 15" MBP, awesome machine! BTW could also boot externally just to see if there was any positive results! Good luck!

Yep, that's a battery calibration issue. Here's a guide on how to recalibrate it.

Thanks for the link but I’ve followed that procedure to no avail. Interesting read though!
