My phone battery is leaking

My phone had a motherboard issue where if it turns off it'll not turn back on when pressing power button ( the service center told me it was a motherboard issue have to change the whole thing ), but then if i wait for days and then press power button while connected to charging then it turns on , so the other day it died and i was charging it but then i heard a noise like something fell , went to check on my phone , the phone backside was covered in some oil sticky, what should i do now , i kept it far, i didn't notice any smell thou, phone isn't bulged , I didn't open the phone case cuz i was scared

Hey OP,

You need to discontinue use of your phone now and avoid direct contact with the phone. From what you described it sounds like the underlying issue with the MB may have caused your phone's battery to swell, and most likely caused it to burst. You need to disconnect it from any power source, handle it with gloves to prevent further exposure since the chemicals in that battey can be harmful.

Yeah, those chemicals can be VERY dangerous. Make sure you don't put it in the household trash, and instead bring it to a hazardous materials center. It's also a major fire hazard, so be careful.

ii thought lithium-ion battery don't leak, so far I've placed it in a carboard box and kept it in a storage room, how should i dispose of it properly also my data is still in there, also the battery doesnt look to have been swollen.

@timidestone699 iFixit has a page on e-waste disposal that I highly recommend checking out. I would also look at hazardous waste disposal in your area; you could try removing your SD and SIM cards from the phone to retrieve your data.
