The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Pro Retina Display, model A1502, features fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and introduces the Force Touch trackpad.

Keyboard/trackpad not working sometimes-

When resuming from sleep or starting up, the trackpad and keyboard often don't work. And requires a lot of rebooting.

I suspect the trackpad to be at fault, but need a second opinion.

Problem could lie with the connecting cables... try reconnecting them to see if that resolves anything, failing that I would do a back up and try a clean install as it is going to be a mission to remove the battery safely enough to reuse it again to check or replace the touchpad itself MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Trackpad Replacement

@livfe - The cable is known to work, and is making connections. And I can manage to remove the battery to replace the trackpad. (the adhesive is weaker than usual)

@beanman56 Tried Apple Diagnostics?

It's extremely common for the trackpad flex cable to fail on this model. When it does, both the keyboard and the trackpad will cut out. I'd strongly recommend replacing that cable as a test since they are pretty cheap. If the issue persists with a new trackpad flex cable installed, then the issue is probably with the trackpad itself or the corresponding connectors. Good luck!

@zpl - New issue, The trackpad clicks, but the trackpad doesn't track, and the keyboard now doesn't work. Any ideas?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@beanman56 Probably the cable.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@beanman56 - as Duck and Zach both stated this is a common issue as the battery tends to press the cable into the bottom case where grit can collect perforating the cable. The other area is not allowing enough slick on both sides equally so when the battery swells up it stresses the cable.

Here’s the needed cable MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Early 2015) Trackpad Cable.

@danj - IF it's the cable, It makes sense. I got the trackpad of ebay, and the cable came free.

Luckily I still have the old one.

@beanman56 - mmm… So you have replaced the Trackpad already then. Let’s backup here, why did you replace the trackpad? What was the original issue before we went down this path.
