It's extremely common for the trackpad flex cable to fail on this model. When it does, both the keyboard and the trackpad will cut out. I'd strongly recommend replacing that cable as a test since they are pretty cheap. If the issue persists with a new trackpad flex cable installed, then the issue is probably with the trackpad itself or the corresponding connectors. Good luck!
