Please give us the last three figures of your serial number so we know your exact machine. When the backlight goes away can you still see the desktop? Does anything change when you move the screen up and down?

I can give you a better answer if you answer.

The flickering screen returned and it is really annoying.

Is it the LCD inverter or can it be the LCD panel, which causes the backlight flickering?

Please help me.

Replace the CCFL bulb in your LCD or buy a new LCD panel.

So here are the last three Figures: U9B

when the backlight goes away I can still see my desktop. Sometimes when I just close the macbook and open it again the backlight works.

Well, if that returned after the SMC issue, in order of cost and probability the culprits may be:

1. A Pinched Inverter Cable

2. An aging/Failing Inverter

3. An aging/failing backlight lamp

4. (Really, really rare, so rare that I wouldn't take in account): Aging capacitors on the Logic Board

Usually, in a pinch, changing 1-2 fixes the whole mess.

First make sure you don't have any settings to dim the display. Check your system preferences and power settings.

Is the brightness at the highest setting now? Does it still not appear to be that bright as if it were new? If so your display lamps are near the end of their life. You'll need to get a new display unit. The florescent lamps used in the older macs wear out.

The other possibility is the LCD lamp power system on the main logic board (inverter) cable is loose or the inverter circuit has a bad solder joint or one of its components going south.

MacBook Core Duo LCD Panel Replacement

Try resetting the cable and see if any corrosion on the solder joints. Cleaning might help. Did you get your system wet at some point?

Unless you are a very good micro-electonics solder thats as far as you should go. Over heating the components can kill them and the joints are very delicate.

It maybe time for a new laptop unless you can fine some used parts. Sorry ;-{

Thanks for your reply.

Sometimes if i move the screen the backlight doesnt flicker.

Maybe it is only the inverter cable.
