Samsung's tenth-generation flagship "phablet," featuring its trademark S Pen stylus. Released August 2019.

screen no no longer works after battery replacement

HI there, I recently bought a battery from Ifixit for my note 10 plus.
i did the battery replacement and the device was perfect for about 3 hours. then all of a sudden the finger print scanner stopped working, i did a restart, the phone came up but the scanner was still not working. i tried doing another restart a few mins later after which i saw the Samsung logo flash as per usual but that was the last thing i saw on the screen, the display is fully black but the phone still works. i went back through the steps making sure ididnt miss anything ( as i said before the phone working perfectly after the battery swap for a few hours)

Just wondering did you manage to fix the problem? Thanks

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

lol nope not even, dont have another phone to test the display or anything like that.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I can't believe this exact same thing just happened to me today. I replaced the battery and everything was working fine, so the fingerprint scanner start to stop working, but the fix was simple, I just needed to clear cache from biometric.app in settings and it worked again just fine. Today, I wake up with the alarm from my phone, but the screen wasn't working and I don't know what to do.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@guisb wow, really sorry to hear that bro... ended up carrying to a repair shop the other day. havent had a feedback about it yet.

but i am wondering if this could be intentional on Samsung's part.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@shaundavis They told me that the screen is probably dead, that possibly could had break when the battery was replaced, but they said it that wasn't sure about where the problem in the screen was. Why it stopped working after the same exact way it stopped working your phone? Idk, kinda sus, the price to change an amoled screen is exorbitant, i will buy a new phone, and I don't know if it will be Samsung ever again.

How is it possible that such many people has the SAME problem ?

How is it made and how can be fixed? What the cause is?

I replaced the dead battery with an identical one purchased on amazon.

It was 0% when start recharging and after some hour the screes stopped to display battery status...

Now I can see that the battery is fully charged by a notification on another samsung used for wireless charging the note10+

If I push the power button I can feel the short vibration but the screen remain black.

How to fix it?

What's wrong on the procedure?

Do not tell me that the screen was damaged during the replacement because it worked for some minutes\houres after the replacement of the battery and some user are telling that it return working after some day.

If it is a sophistication by Samsung this model should be banned from EU and not pass customs !!!

a few people say this worked: "Update, I re-opened my Note 10+ and re-did the whole process, removed the iFixit battery.

I made sure to scrape every bit of adhesive provided by iFixit and cleaned it well, until the battery and the phone back was shiny clean.

I reinstalled the battery and reassembled it.

I do not have a second set of back cover adhesive so I will need to get that later.

I started the phone and....lo and behold...the screen works."

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Turn it off, leave it off for 1-2days

Prob in a warm/dry place, hopefully u didnt seal it up yet either

try it everyday after, if it has some discoloring just wait another week and it should clear up

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I agree. This is simply a practice in patience as the combination of previous efforts and the alcohol need to fully dry before it will begin working again.

After talking back to the ifixit support they blame the broken screen on an installation error caused by me.
They DO NOT explain, why the screen was working fine for 24h, the DO NOT explain what the "installation error" could have been.
Overall i wouldnt try to swap the battery.

You still haven't said how you removed the old battery. If you used something to pry it up then you could of put too much force on the back of the screen causing it to start to fail. Samsung batteries are a nightmare to remove. I use a heat mat and alcohol to remove them.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

i feel like this was deliberate so we cant repair the device. its crazy that soo many people bought from ifixit and have the exact same issue lol

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Guys, I dont know why or how, the phone started working again. I turned it on yesterday and it seem to work fine.

The only thing is, that I now have a slight green hue while displaying grayish content, This seems to be caused by the glue Samsung used in the display (google "gluegate" ...its a thing).

Soooo I think I know what the problem is / was:

I think the alcohol i used to loosen the battery caused the problem. Maybe something got stuck or loosend something inside the display which cured again over time.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@martyntaylor let me guess, its working now? after about 24-48hrs?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@philippkarmann btw thank you for this comment as this was the only comment actually explain every issue i had, including the gray/green display (which is now back to normal after a few days)

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

I have the same problem, I did not use any force on the battery to remove it, just a drop of 99.99% IPA, and a gentle pull with the ifixit succion cup.
It worked fine for about 4 hours then the screen just died, and now I am unable to use my phone at all.

Try leaving it alone for a while. Maybe yours will return to work too. Give it 2 or 3 Weeks and maybe keep us in the loop :)

did u try it??

I have little experience with Samsung phones, but here are some things to try:

  • Reseat the connector
  • If you still have the old battery unplug (but don't remove) the new one and plug the old one in and just set it on top of the new one then try to power the phone on
  • Check for damaged pins on the female and male screen connectors
  • Check for a damaged screen

You did say it worked for a little, and the Samsung logo appears so I'm thinking maybe some anti-repair method triggered or something with the software could be messed up. Maybe try booting in to safe mode using the following steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Turn it on by pressing and holding the power button.
  3. Once the Samsung logo appears, immediately release the power button and then press and hold the volume down button.
  4. Continue holding the volume down button until the device finishes restarting.
  5. Safe mode will be displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen. In Safe Mode, only the pre-installed apps will be available. This mode can help determine if any third-party apps, or viruses are causing the issue you are encountering on your device, if it boots into the OS I have heard Samsung has a "secret" debugging menu but I don't know how to get to it

If you find anything but don't know what to do comment on this, or email me (tcolton721@outlook.com) and I can do more research for you. Good luck!

How did you remove the old battery? As the screen is under the battery you could of damaged the screen taking the old battery out.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Definitely anti-repair block, after my battery went to 0%, i recharged again and the screen worked, even if the technician told that the screen was dead, that's super shady, I hope my smartphone continue to work, but I think that anti-repair block will be triggered again, unfortunately

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

yeaa sorry about that bro, but its either Samsung to blame or IFIXIT but its definitely Samsung. nothing to do about it really i ended up just upgrading a year after.
maybe you can try a repair shop and see if you can get lucky.

Oh wow, same issue also, only this week the batt has been bad. OG battery was only lasting 2hrs and failing the Samsung Members diagnostic so figured I would change it before the semester goes full swing. Back came off super ez with heat near the bottom and a suction cup. I even had the nerve to make my back glass clear lmao. The whole thing by the book, no spilling of the 90% isopropyl, just a lil under the batt. Never touched the screen part under the battery, never even touched the ribbon cable for the screen, etc. The replacement went great, and after about 3 hrs the screen is off and the phone is still working. I force restarted a bunch and nada. Good thing I left it open because I wanted to test the battery out with a full charge and drain. But now I just have to pray my phone works in a few hours, I even made sure to dry out the inside with a hairdryer before putting everything back in.

update IT WORKS, but when it turned on it had some lines and flashes for a split sec and worked normally, but now i have a slight green tint that seems to go away when its max brightness, seems common tbh idk if it'll go away. From what ive read it could be something loose, from heat (it didnt look like that right after the repair), or a short somewhere. Some ppl say knocking it fixed it and it comes back occasionally. Hopefully it goes away tho
