2017 MBP with flickering display, image retention, and harsh whites.
I was recently given a 2017 13" MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) from a client. The computer is in excellent condition, though there seems to be some issues with the display. Physically it's OK, but there are some obvious flickering issues, image retention, and backgrounds with whites are pretty harsh. Also the rest of the display's colours seem slightly off.
I reformatted the machine and upgraded from High Sierra to Monterey. That didn't solve anything and I didn't expect it to. The screen looks better on Monterey because you can use dark mode, but that doesn't actually solve any of the issues mentioned above.
Here are some pictures I took with my phone of the display:
Sorry for the quality of the pictures; Nothing I can do about that. You can see the obvious image retention and issues with text on white backgrounds. You can also see the blown out whites on the High Sierra background. That said, the phone camera makes the rest of the colours look worse than they are.
Any ideas of what could be wrong? My guess is the machine got dropped and something internal like a flex cable is broken.
