I have a late 2013 27in IMac. I was wondering if I can exchange the screen and put a late 2014/15 screen on my chassis to create a 5k external monitor. I know I would have to buy the required board to power it up and get it working.

@sonic8188 sure you could turn it into an external monitor. The 5K panel would be a LM270QQ1(SD)(A2) and you would need a suitable driver board. Something [https://www.newegg.com/p/0ZK-0FSV-00003 |like this} to connect it. No different than any other conversion. All it takes it the right driver board.

Interesting idea! So you have a 2013 27" system which is dead so you want to use the shell to hold a newer 2014/15 27" 5K display.
While you could physically fit the display the 2013 logic board and power supply would need to be swapped out with a 3rd party power supply and controller board.
Others have done this so I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.
