PS4 Controller model CUH-ZCT1. Released in November 2013 by Sony Computer Entertainment, this six-axis, 3.7 V lithium ion battery controller is uncomplicated to repair. (NOTE: Teardown guide is NOT for this model)

Why are both of my analog sticks clicking after a clean?

After doing a clean on an old ps4 controller and getting rid of the stick drift, once I checked the both analog sticks it all of the sudden makes a very loud clicking (one click) noise and resisting whenever I push. The noise and resistance only happens after moving the stick in the down direction, also when moving counterclockwise at around 180 degrees (search up "360 angle" for reference of the 180 degrees). Also there is a very sleight noise when moving the stick in the every other direction, but there is no resistance.

I tested moving both analog sticks without the green things touching and that does not seem to be the problem. If more info is needed I'll provide what I can.

When fixing the drift, you only changed the green things that are on two sides of the stick, or did you replace the whole stick?

Can you see anything inside the sticks that looks like they have broken off?

@eke0909 I haven't changed the green things or replaced anything as of yet. On the outside I'm sure that nothing has broken off, but the inside is something that I'm unable to see.

I had the exact issue clicking feeling and sound literally after trying to clean the sensors on the right stick but i just pushed down the stick and pulled it downward toward the clicking and it stopped

Since you haven't changed anything, it isn't due to defective new parts and as you said there wasn't any difference when the green things were removed.

Most Likely Cause of Problem

So my guess is that something got broken inside the stick module (not the green things), my guess would be that you may have pushed the stick too far in some direction and since the frame wasn't mounted during the cleaning, the limit where you can't move them any more isn't stopped by. So when you move the stick too far, it stops on something more brittle and it broke.

This means that you will have to change the whole stick assembly to repair it, this will require soldering. The guide linked below will show you step by step how to change the sticks.

Good luck with the repair! :D
