Screen goes blank after a few seconds/minutes

HI,

My son's Macbook Air is having some issues with the display. When he turns it on, the image is showing and he's able to login, but after a few seconds, sometimes minutes, a vertical line appears and the screen goes blank.

If connects to an external display, it works fine and there it doesn't show any vertical line.

I already tried resetting SMC, PRAM and NVRAM but it didn't solve the issue.

Does anyone faced the same or have any idea about what might be causing this issue?

Ouch! You've isolated the issue down to the internal display. You'll likely need to replace the internal display assembly.

Can you give us a bit more on what model as Apple produced two sizes 11" & 13" and they also altered the part a few times we also need the year. To make this easier plug in the systems S/N here EveryMac - Lookup then tell us what you found.

It's a Macbook Air A2179 from early 2020.

I was doing some tests and if I close, open the lid and then move the mouse, I can briefly see the pointer and then it disappears. Sometimes, the image is shown and then goes blank. Can it be an issue with this part? MacBook Air 13" (Late 2018-Late 2020) Display Cable

@pedro_ladeira - Sorry the display cable is not likely your issue. This series has an issue within the displays T-CON unit which is that attached on the bottom of the display and is part of it.

Since you are so helpful, Dan, I have one last question: Do you recommend getting a display from ebay, which are a bit cheaper than the one that you have mentioned_
