I would install a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro depending on the OS-X/macOS your system is running you might need an older version. Post a snapshot of the main window so we can see what’s happening make sure you adjust the window size so all of the sensors and fan are visible (the right hand window slide) you may want to take two snapshots if you have a hard time adjusting the window size Adding images to an existing question that will tell us what needs addressing.
You maybe expecting more than what this system was designed to support. Gaming and even surfing the web can be hard on your system. If you have the 2009 version of the A1342 you can boost the RAM to 8 GB if you have the 201o model you can boost the RAM upto 16 GB! That can help!
One of the things I noted in the TG Pro output is the lack of any fan data so the fan maybe jammed up with dust or not working. Review this guide MacBook Unibody Model A1342 Fan Replacement using a small soft paint brush carefully scrub the blades of the dust build up as well as the heat sink fin area (and if needed the logic board and case).. Use a can of canned air with a few short blasts to push way the dusk You may need to replace it MacBook Pro 13" Unibody and MacBook 13" Unibody Fan

One of the issues you can encounter is the charging logic is fighting a loosing battle as the battery just can't be charged and as you are also running heavy apps so the system overheats
Let's get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question
