Will not power on when plugged in, (battery issue?)

I just bought this iPod on eBay, it was listed as for parts and not powering on when plugged in. Is this a battery issue or something else?

Yup. As far as I know, iPods like to have a battery present to boot. So crack that sucker open and see if the battery is connected, or even present.

If it shows a sign, like a sad iPod face, then that means the hard drive has kicked the bucket. If it’s anything else, like a red X or similar, that means something’s even more wrong.

I opened it 2 days ago, and someone had opened it before because all the ribbon cables were disconnected.
