Yup. As far as I know, iPods like to have a battery present to boot. So crack that sucker open and see if the battery is connected, or even present.

If it shows a sign, like a sad iPod face, then that means the hard drive has kicked the bucket. If it’s anything else, like a red X or similar, that means something’s even more wrong.
