IMAC died, I want to discard. I can remove hard drive, how do I destroy the data on it?

Hi,
Just smash it with a heavy sledge hammer or any other way that you can think of to break the HDD into smaller pieces and then distribute them separately into different public recycling bins around the place.

The platters are the key! Physically damaging them is all you need to do.
the right answer is a sledge hammer.
the correct answer is to configure it as an external drive and do a security erase on it and reuse it or sell it and keep it out of the landfill.

According to which model it is, it may be worth some $ on eBay. I live in Texas, so an easy way is a bullet through the drive. Please tell us what is and how it died and we may be able to help you save it. (That’s what I do for a living! and what this site is all about)

You write junk data to it until it is full.
