Is Mid 2012 Main Logic Board 2.9GHz compatible with MacBook Pro 2011

Hi there amazing community!

I’m wanting to upgrade my MacBook Pro 13” Late 2011 Logic Board. Is it compatible with MacBook Pro 13" A1278 Mid 2012 Main Logic Board 2.9GHz 820-3115-B?
Also, the Mid 2012 2.9GHz Logic Board I’m looking at already comes with a heat sink, do I need to buy a 2012 heat sink? All the tutorials on YouTube says to buy a 2012 heat sink.

Thank you!

this is one of the few times Apple made a carryover system, that is one with very little different from the previous model.

To start with the only difference you’ll need to deal with is the LVDS cable as Apple changed venders, there’s a slight tolerance issue as the older cable connector tang is a bit larger. Its an easy fix! All you need is a nail emory board to make a slight adjustment.

And yes you need the heatsink that comes with the new board.

Hold on! The 2011 & 2012 systems are physically the same! So David can swap the logic board out if he needs to.

Wasting time to provide misguidance is beyond my understanding, really..take a walk..

@danj Hmm are you sure?

It looks like they are reversed kind of

@beanman56 If you compare the two logic boards you will see they are the same.

Late 2011

Mid 2012

The image I posted is for the 15" model same issue.

@danj The cost proposition is iffy at best, but usually I'm able to often swap the entire laptop out as a unit as the motherboard

Maybe for some it's worth it, but I know how to buy the whole computer for the price of a motherboard. Depending on the price, I'll sometimes write off the hard drive in exchange for a healthy discount but it depends on the OEM and type (SSD or HD).
