Using the same SATA Cable for a WD Blue SSD?

Hello, I’m looking to have dual drives in my iMac swapping the Optical Drive with the WD Blue SSD in place. I’m wondering if it’s a straight swap using the same SATA cable from the Optical?

Thanks!

Not sure why you’ve decided to swap out the optical drive Vs using the better solution as described here Installing iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428 Dual Drive Kit

There are a couple of reasons you really don’t want to swap out the optical drive:

  • The first is the optical drives SATA connection on the logic board is only SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) so you’ll loose have of the possible band witch of the connection! The spare SATA port on the logic board is SATA III (6.0 Gb/s).
  • Besides why do you want to lose the use of the drive needlessly!
