There's no colorful lines or extra lines, it's just this black stripe — the backlight seems to work, whenever I press a little around the rim, there's discoloration. Is the LCD broken?

Sadly you do need a new display assembly ;-{

In your case the ribbon cable which drives the column of lines that are black have gotten damaged. Here’s a look of the T-CON board which is located within the body of the system. The two large ribbon cables carry the video singles to the LCD panel in the lid. One of these cables got damaged.
