Screen issues after clorox wipes

Hello,

My early 2015 macbook pro had a lot of “strainGate” screen problems and fell outside the 4 year warranty. I decided what the heck, I'm already using an external monitor, so I tried the DIY solution of wiping off the antiglare coating with clorox wipes (saw on this forum). For about half an hour, this worked perfectly - the coating was gone within minutes, and I was overjoyed to have my screen back. But then, weird lines and funky backlighting slowly started to appear on the screen. Now the screen is all messed up (see photos). It looks weird everywhere except the very right side of the screen and bottom right corner. The issues seem to change as I move items around the screen - the vertical lines seem to follow around windows as they move, if that makes sense.

Any ideas about what’s happening and what I should try if it persists?

I would say the fluid within the wipe dripped behind the lower bezel wetting the components that are just along the bottom edge.

Carefully use a hair dryer to see if you can speed up the drying and hope for the best!

I would treat the display as trashed in this case - if I got it back great. I would have used something more gentle then Clorox wipes to be safe :-(.

Better to brace for a $$$ mistake then hope too much.

@danj I would have taped the edges off with a 1/4"-1/2" margin even if it meant a little of the bad AG coating survived. As long as it was all gone other than a small bit to save the screen I'd be happy.

Taking it all off is too expensive of a risk.

Thanks - I would guess you are right :(

Update: I've tried to dry it out the best I can and the issue has improved. The weird backlighting is gone - now, if I open a window, very dim white lines slowly form around it, and the whole monitor is slightly pixelated. The image is good enough for use as an occasional secondary display, though, so I'm considering it an improvement over a staingate screen

The moral of the story for future readers is to be very careful with whatever solution you use to remove staingate. Clorox wipes worked like a charm, but watch that bottom edge...

Sadly the display is gone.
