Screen color distortion, flickers

Hi everyone!

I’ve got a problem with my book:

Display doesn’t work fine — screen is flickering a little bit, colors are distorted. Sometimes there’s even blackscreen.

However, there is important note that it works fine only if macbook is open fully or is open at approximately 45 degrees.

Screens:

PRAM reset didn’t help, btw.

Also I can’t change it bcs it’s 15’ and it is not a screenstage.

Sadly your display cables have become damaged! This is a similar problem we saw with the FlexGate issue which was a different ribbon cable in its case it was a bit short so it got stressed. In this case you likely banged the clutch cover just at the right place to kink the cable so over time it fatigued.

Here’s a view of the cables

Hi,

can I change the flex cables without buying a whole new display?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Sorry no ;-{

The cables go directly to the LCD panel you need very special equipment to bond the cables on .The lid is also glued together and so taking it apart would be close to impossible without breaking it. And lastly, were are you going to go to get the cables? They are not available either.

Ah, that sucks!

I read about changing the LVDS flex cable which is available for ~10€ on eBay and my hope was that this would fix my issue. Or at least I try this before investing hundres of euros.

But I guess I'll watch some display replacement videos to see if I'm capable of repairing it myself.

@larrygrabb - The new Touch Bar systems are the least repairable MacBook Pro's yet! Its all most a 2~3K throwaway system ;-{

I'm sure the coming Apple Silicon systems will be!
