This Nintendo DS Lite was released in 2006 as the successor to the Nintendo DS. Getting inside this device is simple, making for easy fixes.

Charge Port repair or replacementon DS Lite

Block Image

I purchased this at a yard sale for 5 dollars and was told the charger port is irreparably damaged by the people in the local repair shop. I came here to figure out how to fix it. Googling it did nothing. I have yet to open it up.

So far the only thing i know is that it doesn’t charge.

Is there any way to repair or replace the port and if so what tools would I need? I already bought a Mako screwdriver set and am ready to try whatever. Preferable I would like to replace the busted port with a type C port or another common charging cable type.

Hi Colin!

The Nintendo DS Lite charge port is a custom port which Nintendo used for the Nintendo DS Lite only.

But you CAN replace the port for a USB-C one! But the downside is that you do need to solder. Do you have any experience with soldering?? You need a soldering iron, a philips screw driver (00) and a tri-wing screw driver (0 and 00).

You need to take the motherboard out first. Guide: Nintendo DS Lite Motherboard Replacement

And then replace the charge port for the USB-C one.

Please check the guides if you feel comfortable to do it by yourself! Otherwise you do need to bring it to a shop. You can also buy the part in the provided link.

Please let us know how it goes!

If you still have this console there’s a usbc swap for it now or original

Aaron, it would help quite a bit if you could post a link or some kind of reference for the USB-C port replacement you're talking about.
