"Battery health" keeps fluctuating on brand-new battery?

Just replaced the battery in my MacbookPro A1398 (Mid 2012 Retina).

The new battery initially showed 105% health, but after “calibration” as suggested (drain till shutdown and charge 100% again), it only shows 90% health - in fact it kind oscillates between 88-91%. Again this is health, not max charge %%. The cycle count is still 0 after calibration.

Is this normal ? Or is it a sign of a problem replacement battery ?

I used the battery from the FixIt kit I received a week ago, the manufacture date is reported as April 17, 2017. The number on the battery is listed as D865256Q1RGMOKAP.

Download, install and run Coconut Battery to get a much clearer idea of the status of your battery. Then let us know your results.

Thank you. I am using Battery Health utility which on the surface does exactly the same thing as Coconut Battery. I presume they both use the same internal system APIs - is it correct ?

Also Coconut Battery seems to require MacOS 10.11 and later, I have to stick to 10.10.5 for a number of reasons.

Thank you - I should have paid more attention.

I downloaded and ran - and yes, it reports exactly the same number and behavior as my previous tool.

I think you'll need to talk with the IFIXIT store to see if they can ship you out a replacement battery. That way you can double check if the battery is the issue or something within SMC services on the logic board thats doing strange things.
