What does an external display look like? Is the image OK there?

What did you replace the complete assembly or just the LCD alone?

Depending on your exact model you might find replacing the complete display assembly easier and much less work! Here's the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody Display Replacement within it you'll find the different screens this model had ($280 to $500 US). Replacing the LCD is also possible but its a lot more work! Here's the guide for doing this: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody LCD Replacement the steps to Step16 are the same then from Step17 on to Step34 is taking the lid apart. The LCD panel cost is much lower ($150 US). But, the risks of breaking the cover glass as well as damaging the bezel & gasket have to be factored in.

Hi, it could be the cable that connects to the logic board and the LCD screen, but if the full assembly already included this cable then:" have you try to reset the PRAM and SMC"?. You can see the desktop ok in an external monitor so it is not the graphics card(controller), i have not notice that apple MacBook pro's have an inverter like PC's. in a PC if the inverter is bad then you will have those problems even with a new LCD screen.

Also there could be a small chance that even if the replacement is "new" that might be defective.
