PS4 beeps once then turns off

Hello,

Now my ps4 can't turn on; when I push the start button it beeps one time and turns off immediately.

crwdns2944067:058crwdne2944067:0

What do you do when a PS4 door won't stay closed, and it beeps when it is off and on?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I have the same problem I suspect it has something to do with overheating as I've ran this thing every night since Black Friday with no problems. It's stayed in rest mode when not in active use. All the suddenly we've had a heat wave and my room can get pretty toasty. I don't think it's a coincidence. Either that or something has melted or broken inside I hope that's not the case. For me it'll run for about an hour or two then work work until the following day (presumably when it has cooled down) Have tried improving ventilation by moving stuff that was near it (action figures on the sides Xbox 360 on top) hopefully there is not a perm any problem cuz I can't afford to shell out $400 again!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

So the ps4 is overheating

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

My tv is a Philips and when I press the power button or turn on the controller it just make a beep and for a few seconds it show it charging my other controller and turn off

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934051:0crwdne2934051:0

This is a common problem with PS4's. There are several things that you can try in order to get it working. If either of these work they probably won't work for a long period of time but they might.

1) Unplug the cord from the back and plug it all the way back in, making sure it's fully seated. Also, if you're using a power strip you might want to try plugging it directly into a wall outlet.

2) You can try turning it up on it's side. This usually won't work, but it does sometimes...it's worth a try.

3) Another thing to try is hitting it against your knee or the floor. Not hard enough to break anything (obviously!) but enough to give it a bit of a jar. This method probably works more than the first method, but is not a sure thing either.

These are the first things to try. If neither of them work then you'll probably have to take it to a repair shop or send it in to one.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

After 2 weeks of trying different repairs suggestion on this thread I gave up and brought it to KT Electronics in San Jose, they had it repaired by the next day. It's been working fine for the last 4 month

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

This actually worked, I gave it a small tap and it turned right on! Thanks dude!!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Glad it worked for you. You may want to get some washers and put under the APU clamp. This will help it last longer. Yours could work for a while just as is though too.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Omg it actually worked thank u

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I got mine to work by unplugging it, holding the power button for 30 seconds at least and then plugging it back in to power.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I just unplugged the power cord and then plugged it back in

crwdns2944067:027crwdne2944067:0:

How does your PS4 turn on automatically because of the disc?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

First of all my ps4 was dead like I mention above. I notice before the problem happens I once inserted the disc accidentally without powering up the console first and the ps4 turns on. Few months later the problem as I mentioned above happen and that's when I started looking for solutions on the ps4 website. Then I remember how I accidentally inserted the disc and I tried it as this is the resort and what the !&&* it works. It works for hopefully it'll work for others!!!!!!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I just experienced this problem, after reading up on it and watching some YouTube videos I chose not to do the washer trick because mine's under warranty so I unplugged the system, removed the first top plate and air dusted it out and it worked.

crwdns2944067:06crwdne2944067:0:

Was definitely a dust issue. I tried everything but this is what finally worked. Took the top plate off and dusted (cleaned) everything and made sure the fan spun freely. Plugged it back in and it came right on! Thanks for the advice!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Mine was a dust problem it worked now thanks

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

This worked for mine. I was experiencing the same issues, and I didn’t even air dust/vacuum mine. I had electronic cleaning wipes and just cleaned mine up real good and it turned right back on.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I had my system repaired once cuzz of this they said it was full of dust ... that was all anyone who comes to this page should follow all steps on this page without turning system on as it can short out i air dusted sides of mine just now wiped down system left unplugged for little bit also so any moister from air would dry i even sprayed power plug i dont recomend tho last resort my system turned right back on am now slaying zombies to music love everyone here who posted to help your saving lives x-)

I fixed this problem it should work for the 1 beep blue light then powers off..

1. Take the top off the ps4

2. Remove the screws 2 tension screws to the heat sink.

3. Get 2 neoprene washers per screw and place them on the screws. I had a bunch left over from the Xbox 360 X clamp fix

Put the 2 screws back ( DON'T TIGHTEN THE SCREWS ALL THE WAY!!!)

4. This is where you have to tweek it until the system powers up.

5. Start kind of tight. If it doesn't come on then loosen. ( IT WILL WORK!!!)

crwdns2934105:0crwdne2934105:0

crwdns2889612:0crwdne2889612:0 5

crwdns2944067:018crwdne2944067:0:

Guys please test my fix. It's essentially doing what the Xbox 360 X clamp fix did. I really think this could help alot of people. It's extremely easy to do..

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Which screws are you talking about?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Just did this and it worked, I'm assuming is not a permanent fix (since it's probably bad solder connections in AGU) but works for now. Just bought a PS4 off eBay that "wouldn't turn on" - gave it a brief vacuuming, little "knock" on my knee and put it on its side and was able to get it from "on then off" to blue light of death and also able to get it into Safe Mode where I initialized it with the most current OS (after it installed it rebooted and went back to "on then off").

So, this morning I opened everything up, took the motherboard out, went out and got neoprene washers (used 5/32" thick ones from Home Depot) and a duster can, blasted the heck out of everything per what I've read elsewhere, installed the neoprene washers as you said and tightened them all the way, put everything back together, plugged it in and it booted right up.

I'm like 30 minutes in now so who knows how long it'll last, but it was either this, the deep, deep compressed air cleaning, or both that got me from dead to home screen.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

The 2 shoulder screws on top that are holding the teeter totter tensioner I believe they are the only Philips screws on the top. If the light is still blue try adjusting the screws a bit more it's not booted until the light is white. As far as how long it lasts I did this for the first time about 6 months ago. I wanted to try it on a few more to prove my theory. Just so a heads up if you get the blue light and shut down and you have to unplug plug the system to get the blue light again you will need a power supply as well as this fix. Thanks for the reply so guys so happy it worked for you!!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

You're right Jeremy...this is a fix that works for about 70% of PS4's that have this problem that haven't been opened. We've been working on a video and DIY repair kit for this problem and finally have it done. Hopefully this will make it easier for others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pszuueUT...

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934275:013crwdne2934275:0

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

This is what I've done twice now when it's stopped working: unplug the power cord, hold the power switch for 20-30 seconds (for some reason this part seems to be the most important part), plug the power cord back in, hold the power button again until you get the prompt to plug the USB cable into your controller and then check for an update.

Both times it seems I was missing the latest update. So it installs and then rebuilds the database. After that it works. (When I've tried to do this without unplugging the power cord first for 20-30 seconds it doesn't seem to work, so unplugging the power cord is key.)

Anyway. Hope that helps!

Unplug your PlayStation 4, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, replug the PlayStation back, hold the power button until it beeps two times, ( make sure your controller is plugged up) go to rebuild database and I hit (x button). Your PlayStation will reboot and rebuild the database it should take no longer than five minutes and then your PlayStation will cut on

Try to slide off the shiny top part of ps4. Then find if there is anything stuck there like a disk (usually it's a lot of dust or trash) clean it up and try again. If won't help, disconnect every wire from ps4 like it was in the box, let it lay down for sometime and then connect it again(helped me)

Hi guys.

I had the exact same issue. I found out if you unplug the power cord for roughly 5 minutes and give it a good tap on its base it turns right back. Step by step I did the following; unplug and let sit for 5, tilt the console on all 6 angles for a few seconds each, tap the Base of the console a few times (not hard though) now when you power up it should work. I was petrified when mine knackered up too! Glad this worked for me, hope it helps you!

Hey I have a ps4 slim my system was fine when I left I shut it down properly as always since I've only had it since April of this year, so just few months and was brand new when bought. I came home to turn it on and I've power button just beeped once and had a blue light and the system won't turn on again and I have unplug and replug it just to get the simple beep/blue light combo and won't turn on at all. I have a disc in it also and it won't spit it out when I hit the eject. And idk what to do

Hi. My ps4 has been having graphics rendering issues at first. It started with fortnite and i thought that maybe my network was slow and thats why i couldnt play the game cause everytime i landed i wasnt able to see or interact with much. . I would have to wait until it rendered. But the funny thing is , it now does the same thing with an offline game . The game is days gone. Ive tried rebuilding database and initialising ps4 and reinstalling the software , but now days gone seems to be working but as soon as i enter fortnite , the loading screen gets stuck and it powers off my ps4. The ps4 is actually brand new i would say , as it hasnt been opened or touched much. . Its a ps4 slim and tbh i do not know whether its been heating as its kept in a small cupboard with less ventilation. But we tried it outside the cupboard still to no avail. The ps4 warranty just finished and its a year old. Please , i would much appreciate any help here. Thanks guys!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

So I had this issue. Here’s how I fixed it.

  1. Remove power cable
  2. remove hdmi cable
  3. press and hold power button for 30 seconds
  4. plug PlayStation back in to power put a disk in to make the PS4 kick on.
  5. plug hdmi cable back in after about a minute to give the PlayStation time to boot up

I know this is late lol but if you are finding your PlayStation freezes when you are trying to rebuild the database or default your PS4 in safe mode then you will probably have better luck initialising the PS4, unfortunately this will delete everything on your PS4 but if you want to fix your PS4 then this is a risk you need to be willing to take

There could be multiple reasons check the fuse in the plug as that could of popped also take the playstation apart and make sure all the cables are connected if that fails then try a different power cord if that fails check the soldering on the mother board

I had the same problem and I was able to partially fix it by flipping it over and hitting it with my knee a few times.(like others have suggested.) BUT, the other thing I had to do was have it laying facedown on the ground then try and power it on. I have had to do this every time I turn it on, so I hope it eventually fixes itself.... And I did this with the HDMI and a controller plugged in. Hope this helps!

I unplugged the console from the outlet waited for 3 or 4 min and then plugged it into a different outlet. Pressed power and it worked. I then returned it to it’s “home” outlet and it worked fine. For now that is, I will post if the issue reoccurs. Also “banging” on it didn’t work for my console.

Banging on your console is only going to damage it make sure it is clean inside and out and in the open for the cool air to get to it

The power button is stuck you need to take it apart and put back together ensuring you clean it as you go

Start from unplugged naked PS4 on bed, I plug it in to the power cord from power outlet, plug into ps4, plug in HDMI and ethernet, turn the console on via the button, around 3 sconds after pressing the button it beeps then blue light will dim/flash/blink… 6/10 times ive done this its constantly flashed and i class it as unresponsive, some of the time it will load up in safemode then roughly 20 seconds of running will ut off as if ive pulled the cable out the back. ive tried everything, tried banging it on my knee, tried taking it apart and fitting washers to it, tried heat putty etc ive tried everything but it seems compeltely dead. I beleive it is due to overheating but i beelive my ps4 is now comep;etly buggered. I have rebuilt the database and it worked, started running for about half hour then same thing happened just cuts off. Ive tried changing resolution and booting up that way, it bypasses the eternal blue light and starts up normally how ever when i select a game it instantly cuts off. I dontm know what else to try and Sony want £185 to do what ive done. Someone please help

If you believe its dues to over heating buy artic heat sync paste it's like £5 off Ebay or Amazon take the playstation apart again completely clear it of dust and put the artic paste on the CPU of the playstation do not use your finger to spread it as the grease off the parm of your hands will effect the past use a bank card or cards similar clear the playstation of dust and the fan ensure you use a clean paint brush to clean it and the board put together that should fix it and reinstall the software once done again you can get the software off the Sony website you need a USB flash Drive disk

Also try a new power cord if that fails then you need to take it apart to find out if all the cables are connected correctly

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

You should have gotten it replaced under warranty

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

You have to wipe and reinstall the software which you can get off the Sony playstation website you need a USB flash drive stick put the software onto it and hold the power button on the playstation down for 7 seconds till you hear a second beep it will boot in safe mode which will let you wipe and reinstall the software

Heres somethings what to your playstation.

. Do not bang it or hit it you will only damage it

. Do not take it apart unless you know where everything goes YouTube can help and taking a video for you to go back to.

.Do not unplug from the power cord switch it off by the wall as the sparks as you plug back in or out can trip the computers memory which if done will kill it

.Do clean your playstation on a regular basis and replace the heat sync every 2 yr or so

. Do keep your playstation in the open to prevent overheating

Again do not bang it as you will only damage your playstation

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

i have had the same problem, for some weird reason my ps4 started doing this randomly one day. The easiest option is to unplug it for say 60 seconds, make sure its off and then plug it back in and hit the top at least 4 times(not too hard) if that doesn’t work repeat it and it should work the second time

crwdns2934105:0crwdne2934105:0

crwdns2889612:0crwdne2889612:0 0
crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

If you tried all of these and it didnt work then you should do what I did, remove the hard drive cover from the ps4, power it on and as it is powering on, bang on the top of the game(notbtoo hard) and it should power on. Hope this helps

I opened up my ps4 for a clean because it was very loud and it’s turned on for a bit then turned off. After disassembling it and reassembling again, I found a loose screw above the power supply. Once the screw was in properly, my ps4 started to work again.

if your having this issue as a result of you cleaning your ps4, I encourage you to check that all your internal screws are in properly and are not loose. Not sure how this works but it solved the issue for me. And my ps4 is a little less noisy but not completely silent yet :(
