Apple's line of iBook laptops was intended for the consumer and educational markets. The iBook line comprises of the iBook G3 Clamshell, G3 12", G3 14", G4 12", and G4 14".

Screen Dims after a few minutes.

After a few minutes the screen is dim. If I wiggle the mouse it brightens up again for a few minutes and goes dim again.

As long as I keep moving mouse its brighter.

Also the screen never really seems that bright. I don't have another ibook to compare to, but it seems it should be a lot brighter in general.

I'm not sure if the amount of brightness it has is normal.

Ben, just to clarify. the brightness is okay for as long as you use your computer/mouse. Once you do not move anything it goes dim? Is that immediately or does it take some time?

Often the CFL backlight lamps loose brightness with use & age. I'm not sure who still has lamps available for your system and you will likely need to replace the inverter and the inverter cable at the same time.

Together this is a big job and costly. It's also not a good first timer job either.

Considering the age of the iBook you may want to look at upgrading to a newer system (used or new).

I know its old, just seems a shame to get rid of it, tried to sell on ebay, to no avail, so might as well keep it.
