Use this page to help identify screen issues with the HP Chromebook 14a-nf009nr.
The Battery is Not Charged
The laptop’s screen will not turn on if the battery is discharged. Connect the charger to any of the laptop’s USB ports. An orange light indicates that it is charging, and a white light means it is fully charged.
- Ensure the laptop is connected to the charger and the charger is receiving power.
- Allow the device to charge for 15-20 minutes before pressing the power button to turn on the laptop.
If the screen still doesn’t turn on, there may be a software, battery, or motherboard failure.
Follow the step-by-step guide here to replace the battery.
The Screen is Frozen or Unresponsive
If your screen is black, it may be frozen or unresponsive.
- If turning the device off and on again does not work, try a hard reset. To do this, press and hold the refresh button and power button simultaneously. Hold them for about ten seconds before releasing them. The laptop should restart.
If that doesn’t work, you can try entering recovery mode and factory resetting the Chromebook. To enter recovery mode, turn the laptop off completely. Next, press and hold the ESC and refresh key at the same time. While you hold these keys, press the power button once. Continue holding the ESC and refresh keys until you see "Chrome OS is missing or damaged” on the screen. From there, follow the directions on the screen. Note that this option will delete all existing data on the laptop.
Follow the step-by-step guide here to replace the screen.
Display Cable is Loose or Faulty
Your Chromebook’s screen may not be turning on because the display cable is loose or faulty.
- Check the connection between the display cable and the motherboard, ensuring it is plugged in properly.
- If it is securely connected and the screen still won’t turn on, you may need to replace the cable.
Follow the step-by-step guide here to replace the cable.
Faulty Motherboard
If your screen will not turn on after troubleshooting for the previous issues, it is possible there may be damage to the motherboard. Overheating or damage caused by falls may result in a faulty motherboard. If this is the case, you will need to replace it.
Follow the step-by-step guide here to replace the motherboard.
