When trying to use the FM Radio on your Philips Somneo, is no sound or only static playing? Follow these steps to try and rectify that issue.
Speaker is Broken
Before assuming that there is an issue with the radio, be sure to check if other sounds the Someno should make are produced. If the Somneo makes no sound, there is likely an issue with the speaker, not the radio. In this instance, reference this troubleshooting page, Troubleshooting: Philips Somneo not making sound.
Faulty Power Connections
The Philips Somneo requires a power connection in order to work, therefore an improper connection to power could result in this lack of function.
Firstly, ensure the power brick is connected properly to a working power outlet. Secondly, ensure that the charger is correctly connected to the charging port located on the back. The Philips Somneo charges via a USB-C type cable, and other cable types likely will not charge the product. It is recommended then to use the manufacturer supplied cable, or to ensure proper type connection should a third-party one be used.
Radio Is Not Tuned To Viable Frequency
FM radios capture a variety of stations based off the frequency the radio is tuned into. Not all frequencies are connected to something, so the static or silence heard could be a result of the radio being tuned to an empty channel. Changing frequencies via the arrows on the touch screen to a viable channel if the radio already functions may result in the radio working. Similarly, ensure that if static is heard there is no distorted music or station being heard, as a weak frequency on that channel may result in it sounding like the radio is not functioning.
Volume Is Too Low
The lack of sound coming from the Somneo radio could be a result of a low volume. Using the volume buttons on the front, turn the Somneo volume up to check if the radio is working, but is too quiet to hear.
Antenna Cord Is Wound Up
No sound being heard or unintelligible static could be a result of the antenna cable being wound up. To check this potential issue, the alarm clock must be opened up. On the underside of the Somneo, there will be four grey silicone pads used for grip. Pulling those off will reveal 4 Phillips-head screws. Unscrew these and carefully take off the bottom panel. This will reveal a green circuit board and a white cord connected to it. This cord is the antenna cable, and you'll note that it is likely wound around itself. Carefully unwind the antenna cord. This may resolve the issue.
Antenna Cord is Loose
While unwinding the antenna cable, check to see when the antenna cable is correctly connected to the circuit board. There will be a white protrusion on the circuit board that the antenna connects to. Ensure that there is proper connection by gently testing the connection your fingers. If the cable wiggles or seems loose, gently push it into the port. Once you have ensured that the cable is now unwound and the connection is tight, replace the bottom panel, being sure to tighten the screws in their correct places, and replacing the silicone grips.
Antenna Cord is Faulty/Broken
If none of the previous solutions have addressed the problem, you will likely need to replace the Philips Somneo Antenna Cord entirely, please see the replacement guide linked here.
