Faceplate replacement

Your controller's faceplate is cracked, and replacement is now necessary due to this damage.

Cracked faceplate

You can replace the faceplate, by following this guide.

Part(s): Faceplate.

Joystick is not functioning

Regular use and wear might have caused one or both joysticks to become loose or even break.

Joystick is loose

To replace the buttons, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the button: Gently pull the button upward. The joystick button should come off on its own.
  2. Clean the attachment area: Clean the inside of the joystick's attachment area to remove any dust or debris. This ensures a clean contact point for the new button.
  3. Install the new button: Place the new joystick button into the attachment area and push it downward. You should hear a sound indicating that it has securely attached itself.

Dirt build up inside joystick(s)

To clean them, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the button: Gently pull the button upward. The joystick button should come off on its own.
  2. Clean the inside area of the joystick(s): Use rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip or cotton pad to clean these buttons on a surface level.

Part(s): New Joysticks

Top left and/or right buttons is/are sticking

One or both of the top buttons on my controller doesn't come back up quickly.

Debris build up

Dirt and debris get in the controller, causing the buttons not to function properly.

You can perform surface-level cleanings on the buttons to try and get dirt and debris out, like using alcohol cleaning pads or blowing air through a straw.

If the surface-level cleanings do not fix the problem, you can take apart the controller to go deeper to clean it. You can clean the inside area of the buttons using alcohol cleaning pads.

If the button(s) still don't work after cleaning and need replacement, then follow this guide carefully.

Part(s): Top Left and Right Button(s)

Tools required: Solder Wick Braid, Solder, Soldering Iron, iFixit Opening Picks, JIS Screwdriver Set, Alcohol Cleaning Pads

One or more of the buttons stick in the up or down position ( Triangle, Circle, X, Square)

One or more of the buttons on my controller takes longer than usual to pop back up.

Dirt build up underneath the buttons:

  •  Use rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip or cotton pad to clean these buttons on a surface level.
  • If the buttons need to be replaced, the controller faceplate must be further taken apart by using the prying tools in the kit. From here, the buttons should be carefully pried away and replaced.

Part(s): Directional and action button replacements

Tools required: iFixit Opening Tools and Opening Picks, Rubbing Alcohol, Q-tips/Cotton Pads.

Silicone membrane/pad is worn out

If the controller's button pad is flabby/soft, consider getting a replacement.

Controller not functioning properly

Slow response time, random freezing, random restarting, or not booting on.

Disconnected cord/cable

This could be a result of the white connector component disconnecting from the Pitch Terminal Pin Header, or the small white clip seen on the end of the cable. It snaps into the small white box on the motherboard.

Controller cable replacement

In the case the wire is broken, replacement of the cord is a viable option. This could be due to improper storage, a pet chewing the cord, or any number of factors.

The whole operation should not take long, as the components of the chord simply snap into the controller.
